Hey all,

Hopefully someone can help me out with this. I currently have a 1987 2wd base single cab pickup with a stock 4 speed tranny. I was looking through Craigslist and came across this ad for a new factory 5 speed tranny, but states its for an 84-86. Will this still work? Thank you

I dont see why not as long as its meant for a R series engine

I LOOKED AT THE AD,DOES NOT SAY WHAT MODEL TRAN ( W55, W56 ETC).
So called my contact at our local Toyota dealer, the number does not come up in their system ,he tells me it may be for a truck made for sell overseas & if so it will not fit any truck that was made for import here!
Just the info I got!

 

Yeah, thank you so much for the info. I decided to pass on it because I couldn’t find any info confirming whether or not it would be a direct fit. Your info pretty much confirms what I thought. Thank you for the heads up. Glad I checked this forum first. Appreciate the help guys!

 

I have my W55 5 speed that I paid $675 two years ago to have rebuilt. Works find , I bought another trans a W58 which is now in my truck. The shiftier slider is for the W58 which places the shiftier more rearward,so a new floor hole would need to be cut.
I want it off my work bench, will let go for $200, this is a great deal, & I was told will bolt up to a 4 speed bell housing!
