Seeing as I have a 4runner for parts, can I change the lugs to get the 6-lug pattern of a 4x4 on my 92 2wd? I already have the calipers out and I have one new 6-lug 4runner rotor. I am trying to get the larger 4-piston calipers for better stopping power. Swapping lugs would make it easy. Can I do it on all 4 wheels?
Yes it has been done before. Hopefully the "Guam" peeps can fill you in. The Offset 8's wheels would look good on your truck.
that was me... LOL I am currently sold out but if a few guys get together and send me a deposit I can have more made... otherwise the only thing I can say is try to nail down 1radtoy on here to actually sell his parts like he keeps saying he will but never actually does, he has the only set of caliper stands left I know of.... read these threads http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=291&highlight=caliper+stands http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=716&highlight=caliper+stands http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=252&highlight=caliper+stands oh and I don't see how switching to 6 lug makes a brake conversion easy??? the 4wd caliper wont fit the 2wd spindle without an adapter and the 4wd spindle won't fit a 2wd... good luck whatever you chose!!
Hehehe ya I read those threads. I went to Lordco and tried to get a parts guy to find a rotor and hat with those dimensions. No luck with that.(guy said nothing matches the lug pattern) I was going to get the local machine shop to make some brackets. I may have to get a hold of a bigger company, such as Wilwood, and order some of those rotors and hats. Can I get those 2" offset hats and 12.19" x .81 rotors both from Wilwood? Is there a part number? I found out that Baer Brakes has Lancer EvoVIII rotors 12.585" but they are too thick so I guess they wouldn't work with the 4 runner calipers. Plus I only have 16" rims so it may be getting too big. Also, MTB68TOY, is there any problem with mounting the rotor onto the outside of the hub? What I mean is there will be a space under the rotor where the bolt goes through to the hub. I was thinking I'd put a spacer in there to stiffen the back of the hat up.
not quite sure what your asking... the only thing I did with the hub or rotor hat was use longer wheel studs, the thickness of the hat takes up about 1/4 inch of lug so they end up pretty short, went to longer studs....
I would say no... only because the 4wd caliper doesn't fully clear the original caliper mounts on the spindle now, they have to be ground for clearance with the mod I did. now with the caliper closer by 1 inch (12 inch rotor to a 10 inch stock rotor, 2" difference split in half) and the rotor in my mod is further out so there is room to bolt the adapter to... you would have the rotor in the stock position and that would leave no space to place the adapter... I guess it would be possible if the caliper was rotated so the mounts were offset from the original... but that would be a biatch to make the adapter for....
