Geez, honestly, it sounds like you're better off just leaving the two of them alone, fundamentally. Whats the reason for the swap? I'd suggest improving them both as they came from the factory and then selling to get money and then buy your desired vehicle. There's a lot of small (and big) things that you just can't swap and make it look OK and work OK. Best of luck in whatever you do though.

Just put the 4wd cab and bed on the 2wd chassis. Converting 2wd-4wd or vice versa is more involved than you would think.

Yes the 22R will Bolt to the 20R transmission, they share the same bellhousing bolt pattern. Or you could ditch the transfer case and get a 2wd Tailshaft assy. for the 82 trans if it's a better tranny.

Quite a few when they're functioning, terribly slow though.

Nice! Search for Montezuma's build thread 2wd 50% to 4wd conversion over on Pirate4x4.com i put a post up there back in 2007 cuz I bought a 2wd truck and planned on using the frame for my 4wd conversion but ended up driving the 2wd truck cuz it was in such good shape. The 2wd frame has the curvature in the front already for the 4wd axle. you gotta chop all the IFS stuff out, buy a trail gear drop hanger, trail gear crossover steering, 5" shackles, shackle tubes, drill holes in the frame, move the rear leaf springs up front and source a 4wd 86-95 power steering box. you can use the same 4wd transmission but you gotta make the mounts or swap them from the 4wd frame. you gotta mod it for the parking brake. swap the 4wd rear axle in. you might be able to use the 2wd leaf springs in the rear and your 4wd leaf springs up front for a 3" lift :-D let us know show us pictures its a build don't get discouraged these 1st gens are awesome.

diesels get above 30MPG but have like 70HP to the wheels. its not worth it IMO if you're looking for lots of power. Unless the truck has a 2L stock. The imported 2LTE's are the best and you can swap a 3L in which is imported plus you can mod it with a mechanical injection + 2lte turbo but you gotta **** with the fuel screw and it doesn't run lean/rich at all throttle positions.
