If I end up going forward with the truck project, I'm going to need to replace the old and leaky topper that's on the bed. I've toyed with the idea of making one, (cutting "ribs" from wood, making braces and covering it in fiberglass) as a project to get exactly what I want out of one. The problem with this is, my ambition is more than my skill level. Or I could buy another one in better shape. Then yesterday as I was being driven around (I hate this not driving) I had a chance to look at an older 4runner driving next to us. My first thought was: "That 4runner looks just like a short-bed truck and the back looks like it could be a nice "topper" if it could be sealed to the cab. Hmm." Of course, it was just driving alongside of us, so I didn't get a good look at it. So, my question is: would this be possible? To get the back section from a 4runner and use it as a topper? Does anyone have any pics of the back section off of the 4runner and or pics of how it connects? Thanks for the help.
The roof on the first generation runner is about 2" taller than the pickup. There are canopies that are styled very closely to the runner top available.
Thats almost exactly what I'm going to be making with the bed. Except the seat will be against the front of the bed and backwards. And there will be "tool Boxes" running down the length of the bed to house the batteries, stereo equipment, ect. Thanks for the pics!
