ok ive seen one toyota with the roll down back window out of a 4runner.
and ive been searching around here and all ive seen is a strange hybrid someone was building(looked good but a bit odd) i was wondering if anyone had done just the back window on here and had any tips to help me in my quest ?
i have the whole tailgate and electronics from my 86 donor 4runner.

Could you post a couple pics of the windows? Newbie Toyota-guy question, but are the windows the same from the truck to the 4runner? If not, you'd be looking at using a stock back window for the truck and trying to adapt the slides and mech. and tracks to work on the truck. It wouldn't be impossible, by any means, but it would take a lot of engeneering on your part. Could you graft the window frame from the 4runner onto the back of the cab? that would be easiest, although with the different curves and such it may not look quite right. That would, however give you the top of the window frame and the sides for the glass to slide up into, which would go a long way towards the install.

Grafting it on would be the easiest IMO. If you don't want the look of the 4 runner door on your cab. The good thing is, metal likes to move and can be easily shaped with the right tools.
I think it would be easier with a later model 4runner since they don't use a tailgate and the window/track are all one piece

yea i think you may be onto something i may just steal the tracks and motors and get a piece of lexan cut because the window does curve slightly to go from the tailgate to the roof i'll have to pull the tailgate apart and see how much i'll have to mod the track and the back of the cab thanks guys i'll pst pics of progress when there is some

Don't the ex cabs curve too? I know my 91 does. So if you can steal the 91-95 4runner rear window tracks then do ur relief cut of the inside of the ex cab an weld in the runner piece. Obviously more work than tht but thts a rundown

I was thinking of doing this mod with my 91 reg cab. After researching a few things and talking to my friends who are big into fabricating they mentioned using the tracks from a del sol or newer tundra and just modifying for the width factor. We figured out how to use the 4 runner ones but i was looking at a newer model runner when designing it. The window does curve but its not too significant of a curve. The stock window should be able to slide most of the way down using the 4runner rails but getting everything to seal properly would be a bigger challenge. We were also thinking about doing all the mods on the inside of the cab that way the outside would still look stock with window rolled up and nobody would even know. Good luck to you and if you get it done before me let me see it!

i think you may have the same idea euro the way everything measures up that would probably be the easiest method and the least amount of cutting it would mainly be getting the window to seal and hiding the tracks in the plastics

Best way to do this would be cut the whole rear of both cabs & graft in!!
    Matching body lines were needed!
There's a pocket between the outer & inner walls so that & all the chandle's ,motor ,etc. is enclosed & can move freely!
