hey bro, ima do 4 to 5 speed swap to, depending on when he does it, ill sell u mine... hey ut truck info u can hit 100, i hit 110
lmao i havent messed with the diff on mine so i honestly dont know what kinda ring and pinion i got but i know for sure its not the common 4.11 its gotta be a ferris wheel back there this think takes outta the whole like a bat outta hell but after you get to 4th thats bout it i do love these trannys though there are bullet proof and have yet to c any weakness yet call me ol fashion but i wana keep it around for my motor swap but would like a back up im going on the ol fewer **** points better time thing but i gotta laugh 2 weeks after i got it took it over to street fights in bristol and the fastest time i could muster was a 17.5 so after 4 times i went home with my tail tucked and started on my new motor a N/A 7m anyways keep more informed on that
that is correct. most 4 speed manual trucks ive ever seen have had the 8" rear diff and 3:07 gear ratios. they were mainly meant to carry heavier loads and thats why they were beefed up. the gear ratio was meant to bring up the final drive gear ratio because the tranny was so low geared and beefey.
it's like a 4x4 3rd member but with a different gear ratio. It's a heavy duty rearend in the 4 speed.
The 5 speed is direct replacement for the 4 speed, the 4 speed isn,t any stronger than the 5 speed to the fact that they share the same main shaft which seems to be the weak link, the 4 speed does have a 8" with 307 gears but cannot interchange any thing with the 4x4 but the spider gear housing because the main carrier housing is offset to hold the 307 pinion, you can put a 4x4 carrier into a 4 speed 8" without issues, the reason they put the 8" in the 4 speeds is because the japs didn't consider work trucks need to travel any long distances, and were mainly city stop and go trucks, thats why there were no sr5 options for 4 speeds, the fastest 1/4 time I pulled with my 4 speed bone stock was 17.3 with the air cleaner lid off.
so if i put the 5 speed and leave the 3.07 gears, id b able to travel long distances without problems on the highway and still b able to carry a load?
