My 72' has a factory 4-speed and from what I can see everything is original. The plate in the engine bay states it has a g082 differential. From what I'm gathering online it's a 8" - 4:11.

Even according to my Haynes Manual 69-78', whether it be an 8RC, 18RC or 20R...they all came with 4:11's.

Do you know exactly where the 3:07's came from? Then I can keep a look out for the both of us. :D

You could try putting some taller tires on the rear.:waytogo:

    Edit to add:

Using the calculator at the above link it seems that stepping up to a 33" tire (33-10.5-15) from a 195/70/14 (I think that's stock Toyota?) jumps the 4.11 to an effective 3.09 ratio.

well i just bought new rims and tires, and the tires are smaller then my 195/75/14s that were on there...they are a 205/40zr17..guess i should post up the pics too..

maybe ill just re-gear the axle, i should put new bearings in it anyways

also the axle has been changed to a newer then 78 axle, so what the stock gear ratio in that?

Dillinja666 if you don't find one closer, I'd be willing to drive it down as far as Santa Clarita sometime this Summer....for the cost of gas, maybe? :D

Otherwise, if you do find one down there, I could use the unit, myself. :)

My 410s with smaller tires were making me rev out on the freeway. 456s would be nuts. Good track gears though.

As an update I did find and install my 309 gearset, and I love em. Have to be going 70 just to get into 5th gear. Got the truck up to 90 today before it started to scare the other guy in the truck. Was kinda fun
Doing 90 at 2500 rpm sounds cool/weird. Also got 33 mpg doing 80 most of the time

That sounds too tall for me(I think its tall). I think 3.56 would be more of my range, 2500 at 90, I wont take my truck to 90, 50 scares me in my truck right now going from 87 300zx to a 73 toyota truck, im scared haha. I dont think the 4.11 will be bad once I swap in a w50.
