so a buddy recently bought a 05 gmc sierra single cab and it sounds good as hell, has a 305 i think, does any one know if it will fit in my truck i mean i think it will but what about fitment, also im partial to gmc's so if there is a difference between the chevys and gmcs that affect fit let me know too. also any alterations to the drive shaft or diff let me know.
the motor is gm. shouldn't matter whether its gmc or chevy, and its also dimensionally the same as the 350 so any kit for a 350 should work. but if you gunna go small block i would just run a 350 since the 305 isn't known to be super badass. i think you'll need to have a driveshaft made though.
just throw a good 327 in it and call it good way more power then you will probaly ever need in a toyota
well i figure im trying to keep reliability since this is my main truck and im going to do all the work on the engine and fitment that i can and put it in like in a week
you will want a 350.. If you think you don't, do the following. call an engine shop and get a price on a 350 short or long block vs a 305.... the 305 will be a few hundred more, simply because there are a lot fewer 305 blocks. the 305,327and 350 are all exactly the same size on the outside. get the 350 if your going to do this. parts abundant for decades.simple to work on.and everything is easy to find. 305's are just a sad excuse for a v8.......IMHO. also know that your front end is NOT going to hold up that engine. you will need to upgrade the entire drive train. You will need....(and this is a shortened list) new springs and front end components. new transmission. new drive shaft. new rear end. new engine mounts. possibly have to alter and move things under the hood, including the steering box and shaft. reinforce the frame. So no, your not going to "drop in a new motor" As a note....if you had an s-10,which is a lot closer to a full size chevy truck, you would have to do the same thing to put in a bigger engine. if you want dependability, stick with what you have. not trying to be a killjoy.....just being real.
weight... think about it... why are our trucks so fun to enjoy? their light weight... you lose that..... what fun will it be?
that's if you don't get excited on mods boltons are easy upgrades and pretty good for the 350 my dad has a built one in a 69ss nova and its putting close to 450 Bhp
im kinda confused??? a 2005 gmc if its an 305 it should be a 4.8 meaning its a LS motor. and if so it Way different than a normal small block. its a much harder swap, and parts are not cheap at all. or do you just want a v8???? if i where you i would go LS tho. 300+ hp at 21 mpg
There is no adapter to use an LS engine and factory transmission. So you would have to use a Gm trans also. The earlier engines have an adapter to use the factory 5 speed. Things to know: In 1986 they went from two piece rear main seal to one piece. This changes the flywheel. In 1995ish they went to Vortec heads. A good engine would be a 95/96 to 99 Vortec 350. Throw an edelbrock intake and 600CFm carb and rock out.
actually no i love my toyota its the best vehicle i've ever had but however i'm sorta sick of the 4 spd and the slowness, yes i've considered the 1j 2j 7m 4a swaps and i was just with him and i think it would be kick ass to have that much power in my small ass toy. i mean i guess i don't know what the best power upgrade is that wont be the hardest to fit and change all around any suggestions from any one who has actually done one
Im just finishing up my swap i put in a 22R hybrid its got a mild cam high rise, webber trd header. basically the works with a 5 speed behind it. Ill let you know how it pans out. I would definatly swap out your 4speed It makes a big differance. I think you would have more fun with a torquie toyota motor than a 305 but thats just me
here is where you want to look for the GM swap: http://www.downeyoff-road.com/EngineComponents/EngineConversion4Run.html
With gas costing what it doses ,& only going to go higher! Stay with a 4 banger! A EFI engine will be the best bet,& yes you can pull great power from them,& still have great milgeage! My LC Pro Street EFI has plenty of power,& gets 23-26 driving hard & 31 if I stay @ 65 cruising! Around 230 hp,largest pistons you can run with stock injectors ( which their not) 82mm stock piston size, now 94mm,if I remember right.
i have a bad ass 4.3 v6 all new never started i built it for my 76 and theres no way it will fit 1.400 bucks later and i cant use it ... i almost cryed its for sale for what i have in it its still on the stand
Seriously this can be easier, with the GM small block it is pretty well the same throughout, If it is in fact an ls series it will be all aluminum (lq's lts and others had iron bits) the all aluminum ones actually weight less than the ka24e (2.4 single 4 cyl) in my nissan, and that is including the 6 speed transmission by a little under 50 pounds. If you have a carb'd (you could convert it) version which that is not then its 5 wires to running 2 custom engine mounts trans mount and driveshaft away from powering you down the road. To make this more reliable you should get an upgraded radiator and rear axle, gm 12 bold or 9 inch ford, few more wires and you have guages for everything you need.
