Ok, I guess it's time to start a build thread on my current DD. I'm building this truck in loving memory of my first 2BY which unfortunately was a project parted out and scrapped due to a college budget..

    the OG

So now here it is many cars, gf's, and years later I finally come across Craigslist find #1

    1992 2wd 22RE 142k one owner with a noisy timing chain for $400

    <a href="http://s539.photobucket.com/albums/ff351/twinturbotaco/2BY/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_0303.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff351/twinturbotaco/2BY/IMG_0303.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

    <a href="http://s539.photobucket.com/albums/ff351/twinturbotaco/2BY/?action=view&amp;current=DSC01609.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff351/twinturbotaco/2BY/DSC01609.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

And the sweet tobacco infested vinyl interior. It does have some made in Germany MB Quart 3 way components in super sweet door boxes (installed in 1993!) though.

Sold the canopy, replaced the TC, and did a minor tune up and it runs great! Still reeks like a 15 year old ashtray tough, lol

Swapped on my 19's from another project and picked up some 4x4/Runner fenders for some inspiration. Also it's hard to tell in the pics, but the hood is from a long long ('97) ago project and has a 2G DSM hood bubble grafted into it.

    <a href="http://s539.photobucket.com/albums/ff351/twinturbotaco/2BY/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_0381.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff351/twinturbotaco/2BY/IMG_0381.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

And then a mild 3/3 drop so it didn't look like it was on hydros

    <a href="http://s539.photobucket.com/albums/ff351/twinturbotaco/2BY/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_0396.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff351/twinturbotaco/2BY/IMG_0396.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The inner fender was munched pretty good on the right side so I had to replace a section of it.

    Craigslist find #3

Box of Toyota parts, mostly went on eBay for a nice profit, but kept the Centerforce 4X4 clutch and flywheel assembly. Grabs like non other! Well, grabs everything that the 22RE can throw at it :doah:

    $50!

    Interior time..

In my weekly Pull-a-part journeys I came across 91-94 4Runner SR5 seats, gauges (which are super easy to calibrate to the 4 cylinder), console, padded grey dash, carpet, and SR5 Pickup tilt wheel and column switches with intermittent. Also I pulled the shifter out of a '84 Celica GTS and welded it to the base of the Hilux shifter.

Progress has slowed somewhat since summer, heres a clean shot from summer on a trip to Moscow.

    <a href="http://s539.photobucket.com/albums/ff351/twinturbotaco/2BY/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_0411.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff351/twinturbotaco/2BY/IMG_0411.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

    <a href="http://s539.photobucket.com/albums/ff351/twinturbotaco/2BY/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_0410.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff351/twinturbotaco/2BY/IMG_0410.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The only additions since these pics were removal of the middle leaf and air shocks.

I'm gonna focus on finishing the interior and then move to the suspension and finally finish the body hopefully this spring/summer.

working on the 2BY is great cuz parts are cheap, it's easy to upgrade, makes a great DD and most importantly I can half a$$ everything and it still looks good :waytogo:

For S's and giggles heres a few pics of my main project (hence the username) that is way stressful to work on due to my anal tendencies.

The TwinTurboTaco - in project mode since '98 :duh:

Your house must pick up a lot of radio stations with an antenna like that!
    Oh. That's not an antenna.

Very nice projects by the way.:D

The scoop on my old mini was grafted in from a late 90's Subaru Legacy. Looked great, but i made it functional which was a huge mistake. anything over 50mph and it would make the hood flex up and start bouncing around, also my firewall was always covered in bug guts.

I'll see if I can find some more pics of the 4runner taco front, unfortunately it is so far burried under boxes and crap that i cant even see it now, so I'll keep you posted 'Cups

Time for a little update. Ive been working on a sub box as part of finishing the interior. Heres some pics, sorry they are phone pics, and excuse the mess... it got a little out of control, haha

Started out covering the back wall with fatmat and ensolite, then taped everything over so I could start making a fiberglass mold for the back and bottom of the box. Also notice the 12mm bolts welded to the cab wall - these will be the box mounts.

    Front/sides/top/divider all 1/2 mdf

    Laying down the 'glass:

    Cleaned up

Hole for the mounting bolt and a 3/4 dowel to brace the front panel a little

glued and screwed the front panel on, fiberglassed over all the seams, and let some resin soak into all the mdf in effort to maybe stiffen it more. test fit with one sub:

After adding together the volumes of all the areas and subtracting the sub displacement I ended up with just a hair under .5 cubes on each side and these subs can go in as small as .4

Then started building a trim panel piece. I actually had it completely done and wrapped in vinyl when I came across some interior plastic panels, so now I have the plastic trim that goes uner the rear window, rear pillars, and joins in with the front pillars. So after I got all that installed I had to start over on the trim piece.

I already have the 91-94 fabric style 4Runner seats in the truck, and i picked up a set of 91-94 pickup SR5 door panels to match the seats, so i decided to cover the box with 91-94 4Runner rear seat covers. The vinyl trim mimics the tops of the door panels and the SR5 center console.

I also had an upholstery shop remove the pockets from the back of the 4Runner seats so that they wouldnt be resting on or rubbing the subs.

On to the cab floor, I put some more fatmat where it was needed, a layer of 1/8 Volare about where floor mats would be, then covered the whole cab floor in 1/8 CCf from Sound deadener showdown.

Then covered everything with 1lb MLV and finally put a 3/16 layer of open cell foam (headliner) in the area in front of the seats.

That's where I'm at right now, more pics to come soon as I finish this up

Haha, of course. The notches in the side of the sub box clear the seatbelt housings, and you cant tell from the pic but the vinyl trim piece is notched out about 1/8 right where the seatbelt goes thru. The other end of the seatbelt bolts to the floor right in front of the trim
