I have a 1989 22re toyota pickup. I am trying to install a new throttle position sensor. The part where the tongs seat into measures .140 and the tongs measure .155 so the part will not fit in. I don't have the old TPS so I can't get the part # off it. The motor is off another 22re vehicle and I don't know what it was. I have tried both types that are listed for that year. I bought one from kragen's and another from auto zone and both measure the same. Am I missing something on how to install this part. I hope someone can help. It's my work truck and I need to get it going Thx John
Follow up to my own question Ok, so this not being the original engine and all tbs sensors don't fit that I tried so far I'm wondering if I can just connect the new sensor to the harness without bolting in on and check for the proper voltage .5 at idle and under 5 at open throttle also seeing if it evenly goes up the volt scale when I turn the spring inside the sensor switch. I can then make the slots bigger so the tangs on the little plate that the switch matches to fit. Again I don't have the original tps. Also by adjusting the linkage by putting the .022 shim in the idle stop and noting( ajusting resistance) resistance and with the .033 shim as it states in the book , will this also work. Or will I need a whole new throttle body. Anyone know what a throttle body would cost for a 1989 22re standard trans 4 cyl. toyota pickup will cost
