 I already searched  I could've sworn I saw a thread on here that said you could get a bit more umph outta your stock 22re by advancing the timing a bit. Searched in writeups and engine forum with no luck:shrug: Anyone have any insight on this? And I also know there is a jumper for base timing to be set. Or should I just set it at total advance? Any help is appreciated. :waytogo:

Engnbldr told me a good balance for a 22RE would be 7* BTDC, factory is 5*?

he told me that a while back, too.

I've always seen 10-12 BTDC be the sweet spot on any motor. Try playing with your timing adjustment and see how it runs. Stock distributor curves are weak, so add extra initial timing to get a nice total timing mark. My 20/22R combo loves it around 15BTDC

Just pull a plug wire off and lay it near the valve cover so it can arc.

Just watch out with a lot of advance on hot days. Last summer when it was in the upper 90s/100s my truck didn't like over 8 degrees, started pinging pretty noticeably. back to stock and it was fine though. No knock sensor so the computer won't do it for you like newer vehicles.
