well heres the deal my friend just picked up a 89 extra cab pickup and the engine is about to go. we have another 22re on the side to drop it in. he has no experience at all with engine swaps but i have done a couple in hondas

does anyone have a write up on how to properly take out the old motor and drop the new one in? and somethings i should look out for when doing the swap.

    thanks.

Make sure you mark all the connections and pull that bad boy out! There is nothing hard about swapping in a 22re for a 22re. The motor should be a 22re on the 89 right. I would freshen up the other motor before putting it in there. No point in doing all that work just to have the timing chain bust on you. Buy a rebuild kit from the internet and rebuild that motor for another 200,000+ miles of reliable service.

    Shootz!

actually i believe the motor came out of an old celica.. the timing chain was done at 100k and there is about 120k on the motor. i was also told the seals and gaskets were also cherry and in like new condition.

so im guesing marking all the plugs from the harness and putting um back in the right place would be the hardest.

and as for cleaning i think were gonna degrease and clean up the new 22re going in... thanks for your input!
