Okay guys, 88 Pickup with the 22r 4spd tranny. Sometimes when leaving a stoplight/ sign the truck will start to roll then act like it wants to die. If i'm not quick enough to stab the clutch or rev it up it will die. I can ride the clutch a little and give it some gas and it wont die. Could this be plugs/wires/cap/rotor, or could it be a carb problem, combination of both? Also its much worse when the truck is cold.
I had this problem with my '81 22r and again on my '86 22r. They ran perfect one day and started bucking and wanting to die the next... No guarantees, but check your wiring to the "idle fuel cut solenoid". I think the '81 lost the ground somewhere in the harness and the '86 lost the power.... I just made my own connection and it cleared up and ran the way it was supposed to. On the '81 i learned the hard way and gave up....had some under the table asian guy throw a dirty ass $300 "rebuilt carb" on it, only to have it die on the way home from his shop! Stuck it out, found the problem and made it my "go to" when my '86 started running the same way.
Sounds like a carb issue. Those old stock carbs get cranky sometimes. You could raise your idle a little. try putting some carb cleaner thru it and blow that sh!t outa there.
Actually raising my idle did help slightly unless I am running the a/c. And I have seafoamed the **** outta the carb too.
