i have a 4 speed 20r flatbed, sweet truck. actually bought "rosenante" for 400 bucks in washington state and drove it all the way cross country to florida a few years ago. trip of a lifetime for sure. at any rate recently i have been experiencing an interesting problem, and it all started after i heard a load electreical crack about a year ago, while trying to start her. starting is sometime intermittent, and when she does run, which runs great, but while i am cruising along at say 50 to 70 mph the engine just shuts off? what i usually do is try to restart by popping the clutch and on/off ing the key circuit. it shutts off, to the point where all idiot lights come on and just no spark i think. im pretty sure its not fuel as sometime i get outrageous backfire from the engine being loaded up with fuel at the high speeds. i have a jury rigged ignition switch, and my radiator is just about gone. if anyone has any ideas i would appreciate. right now i cleaned a few plugs and relays and thought i found the short, but just the other day while driving to the beach it did it again. i cant let this puppy sit she need to runnnnnnnnnn jb
The fact that it runs then dies, then restarts suggests something electrical, I would do the basics and check and clean all the connections at battery, starter, alternator, fuse links, grounds, ect. ect. plus plug wires, cap, coil, and replace the ignition switch and see if that cures the problem. If not, we'll go to plan B
