My 78 longbed has unknown miles on it... Though a piece of paperwork from the last owner shows 164xxx on a worksheet from 2001. That is the only thing I could find on mileage.. though I have probably put 15-20000 on it in the last 2 1/2 years driving it daily .. thanks for still reading, the problem I am now having is blow by. I changed oil/filter/air filter a couple of months ago after I saw a small amount of smoke . I also made the decision to add about 1/4 of a bottle of "engine restore" because my buddy had it laying around and said he had great success with it on certain applicatiions. It did stop dripping oil on the driveway after that change, but I am now having bigger problems. Is the blowby because of the "restore" product? Is there anything I can try? Here is a picture of my air filter, and oil pool beneath it. Please help me save this old engine! I love this truck and drive it every day.

Did you check/replace the PCV valve?

You say that there is a bit of smoke? When? On startup? All the time?
Then you show a pic of the oil in the filter housing.... That's normal because of the nature of the recirculation system and crank case evacuation. Now, too much there probably isn't normal, but on a high mileage engine, there will be some blow by.

The additive likely did little to nothing to affect any of the changes you've seen, especially since you only added 1/4 of a bottle. You can check to make sure the PCV is operating correctly, but you'll likely find that it is. A compression test will be more telling in this circumstance.
