My 1989 22re idles perfectly from cold to warm up. Only issue I had is that when I put it on drive it drops to 500 rpm and stalls like its going to die. Check timing is at 5 degrees before TDC. Adjust idle mixing screw but has no effect when I drop it in gear. Any suggestion or answers?

Maybe check-valve on your brake booster. Is it automatic.

It's an automatic. I came to a conclusion it might of been my tps. No engine light but I did came up with the code 41. I'll have to do some adjustments and find out if it's really the problem b4 getting a new one. Sad thing tho is that it won't fire this morning so it's down to two proplems that I'm facing.

    air flow sensor

check the mass airflow sensor going to the intake filter.

Ignition wires are good, new oil change, I'm going to hold off on the timing chain. It just feels outta the equation here. 2xx,xxx miles, maf might be a plossible factor. Ill post up more updates as I go the process of elimination.

VAFM's don't go out that easily. I'd check the intake pipe between the VAFM and the throttle body.

Took out the throttle body. Oh it was caked with so much gunk. Clean it all up the best i can with throttle body cleaner and also the inside of the intake(somewhat).I test the terminals vta and e2 on the tps and my resistance was jumping everywhere. Changed the tps and got rid of code 41. Truck ran super good and much stronger but still stalls when put on drive. Oh and the plastic air intake pipe. Oh yea found out it had a good amount of air leak from being old and brittle so I taped that up. Ran alot stronger too. But didn't help the idle when I put on drive. Changed the plug wires. Oh yea now this thing idles like a champ but still stalls when i put on drive. At least it doesn't dies this time. Itll just stalls and stalls when I put on drive? Right now I'm thinking okay it's doing this when there's a load. Maybe a leak somewhere else or maybe just that one coil plug that I didn't changes just yet? (yea found only 4 plug wires sitting around). I little advice. Don't get cheap crappy sparkplug wires. But yea I'm still determine to do more tests and find out the cause to this stalling.

Hmmm, so has the engine's timing been corrected? I think it's 5* BTDC, or was it 7*?

Yes I check the timing with the diagnostic box shorted. It's right at 5 degrees BTC. Oh yea forgot to mention my alternator went out all together so I had to change that too. Right now I'm curious about my readings in my water temp sensor to the ecu.

Wonder if the ATF has to do anything with it.

Finally changed the fuel filter and water temperature sensor and the truck idles and runs better and stronger but the stall and hesistation while come to stop was still there. I finally had enougth with it and went to the dealer and order the flexible intake tube that bolts right to the throttle body and replaced with my old ducktape one and WOLLA! All the misery had went away.
