Just bought this 83 Diesel long bed 5 speed for $450, found it sitting in the dessert hadn't been driven for about 4 years. towed it to my friends house and replaced batteries and flushed radiator and it started right up. Replaced brake master cylinder and bled system and I had brakes. Had to replace about every bulb in the truck. about 3 days later the injector pump started leaking so I resealed it (new o rings). Replaced fan belt and water pump pulley (it had the wrong pulley on it??!?!) Someone tried to steal at some point before I bought it and had jacked up the steering column and the back window latch is missing, also at some point it was shot twice with a .38? and has 2 bullet holes in the passenger door (I found one of the bullets on the floor of the truck). The body is in pretty good shape no major dents or any rust. Radio and windshield washer do not work. Missing the one piece of chrome trim around windshield the cab polished up ok paint is pretty good.
bed is in pretty good shape, just a little pitting up by the cab, the dessert really can save things from rust. the dessert was really hard on the interior plastic (dash, mirror light lens, kick panels, speaker covers) all cracked and or fell apart. 2L diesel engine yes the spring on throttle cable is stock
Clean ride. I have brown 82 SR5 wheel for sale you wanna go that route. What are your plans for the truck?
OK I received the intake and exhaust manifold and all the little parts(water lines/oil lines/etc) for the turbo addition. I ordered an engine gasket set ($153 was the only one I could find in the U.S.) and also received the power steering pump and bracket. Ordered a new inside mirror from China ($15 for mirror $15 for shipping). picked up new side marker lights (the old ones were so sun baked they literally fell apart when I tried to replace the bulbs though the lenses were perfect the rubber part didn't make it.) Replaced front shocks. Still need to order a turbo, methanol/water injection kit, power steering gear box, a larger after market radiator, air conditioning, etc.. Also going to try and repair and recover the dash, get the bench seat recovered, and various misc stuff. just bringing everything up to stock or better right now.
Jealous man! Always wanted one. Just cash poor when they show up! Gotta stout project f you ever want to consider a trade!! (Can't fault a guy for trying!) SUPER clean my man!
I have heard there is no better diesel motor in terms of reliability then what this truck carries right here. Only thing to make sure of is it doesn't overheat, and bam! Killer lookin truck! i wish i could find one like that!
