So I know it's a known issue with Toyotas, but my accelerator pedal doesn't release properly. Somehow, I missed the recall . I push the accelerator down, and it doesn't want to come up on it's own; I have to pull it up with my foot sometimes. I figure it's one of 3 things: the cable, the pedal itself, or the carburetor springs. Anybody have similar experience with this?
I'd check out the spring on the carb if it's gunked up or the tentions too tight it may get stuck OR check the throttle cable itself - if it's worn thru the housing it can get stuck as well maybe try lubing inside the housing with some silicone grease.
raffaelli has similar prob... IMO, i think its the plastic piece on the pedal behind it getting stuck, it's like roller style in a way...
I'll go back and take a closer look at that pedal. It started doing this in the wintertime, when I was tracking a bunch of slush into the car, and the throttle springs seem okay when I monkey with it up at the throttle assembly itself, so I'm hoping I can just do something with the pedal. I'll see what I can find.
I went to town on the cable and the bolt where the pedal attaches to the floor. Seemed to do the trick, for now.
mine was totally frozen from rust at the floor where the pin goes through the pedal. pb blaster and worked it for awhile. seems decent. poor lil truck was left in a pasture. things shouldnt rust in tx haha
