So I figured I should start a project thread instead of posting updates to my introduction thread ( http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/introduce-yourself-3/hey-everyone-15736/ ) Got a ton of stuff done today. 1 Rebuilt Carb - Runs Better, no idea how to tune it though if you have any suggestions that would be awesome. 2 removed the massive dirt douber nest inside the blower motor - Now it spins. 3 removed floor covering because it was nasty 4 completely removed the air injection, smog pump crap and blocked off the unused ports - More power actually 5 traced the problem with my turn signals to the flasher - picking up the part tomorrow 6 fixed the dash lights that haven't worked in who knows how long I am still having issues with the charge light on the dash and the fuel sending unit. If you have any suggestions for that it would also be awesome.
You should find a wiring diagram and check your grounds.... That could be the problem with the charge light and sending unit.
Normally when the charge light is on either the external voltage regulater or alternator is failing .i would upgrade to a a 85 and up alternator and get 60 amps I think external alts are 40 amp it's a common swap if u do decide two
Well Fixed the idling issues after figuring out I need some of the vacuum **** i disconnected. Lowered the rear of the truck 3" Lowering the front tonight 2" No more belt driven radiator fan, its now electric. oh and I modded my hand - aka broke a finger trying to get a bolt loose.
my charge light turned on as well as my gas gauge quitting at the same time a year back.. about 4 months ago i start my truck, 79 shortbed, and everything is working as it should... very weird but cool. Good luck.
Nice.... If you still have the stock 20r carb, you should do the spring flip mod for better throttle response.
i got this from SD in regards to the same question... "I dont have a link but if you google "corolla 3tc spring flip mod" the corolla carb and early 20r carbs are vacuum operated. The secondary wont even fully open when you need the power. This mod will turn the carb into a progressive carb type and improve throttle response. If you look on the nack side of the carb, you will find the vac diaphram. Two phillip screws hold it to the carb. Remove them . Remove the c clip that attatches the link arm. When you remove it, split it open by removing the 4 screws. Inside you will find the rubber diaphram with a spring at one end. Take the spring and place it on the opposite side where the link arm is. Reinstall it all and you got a nice little power mod! "
awesome i cant believe i have modded these carbs by trial and error for years and i never even thought of doing this im headed out to grab my phillips right now any other adjustments to complement the mod im just playing around with my new daily cleaned and readjusted the carb re routed vacc. correctly and replaced missing aap spring [it just had a professional rebuild at a reputable shop before i got it] it runs super smooth now so im just tinkering with a fine tune for a little more power ,not that it needs more it will spin all the way into third barely takin off on the hiway in the rain my hotrod 82 wont do that but it doesnt have 4.10's either
thanks salty let me know if you want any swap walkthru when you go 5spd there arnt many 42's left so your going there eventually
Update... Long Overdue 4 AWG to the starter and alternator, 0 AWG and 4 AWG Ground for the battery. completely rewired the headlight harness to come off of only the drivers side. Rewired every single last ground on the entire truck. Cheap grant steering wheel because its thicker and smaller than stock. Complete stereo harness from the radio to the new speaker locations (kick panels and doors). Up coming projects *retrofit HIDs from TheRetrofitSource *GM 1 wire alternator conversion *New door panels from scratch for speaker mounts *Fiberglass custom kick panels for speakers *Looking for a wrecked truck with a 22RE and 5 Speed trans for a swap *Found fenders and hood at a price I am willing to pay and they are new *Rewire taillights into one harness that will run completely under the truck *Paint.... Everything. I am considering primer and plasti-dip *Slam it... Maybe Bag it. *After I find my swap I may look into either a supercharger or a turbo because boost is addictive *May fiberglass the dash since the pad is gone and the dash pieces were molested by a previous owner *A/C ftw - Need help finding parts for this one
