After buying this 79 shortbed 20r stock 4speed base model, a few years ago for $900 and driving the piss out of it, jumped it, donuts, hauled goats, worked a ranch, I've finally decided to get to work. No crazy plans of lowering it yet, where I live its not practical, just a decent daily driver. A few horrible snaps from when i got it home. Came with some pretty sweet solid 15's though. then i abused it for a year and a half, broke some stuff, fixed/tuned up some stuff and parked it at my mothers. Put it on the market for 1k, went to AZ for school and shattered my leg, returned home, layed in bed for the past month, and now im crutching around and working on this thing as much as my body allows. i have little no mechanical/engineering experience so this is all very new to me and i dont really know anyone with vast knowledge either. also i have a very limited budget and i'm not working till i can walk again so we'll see how gettin this thing drivable goes. Took it off tha market cuz i just love my little yota. this is where im at as of today, April 4th 2013. pulled the grill and headlight trim to paint. Note missing Brake MC. i got in the day i was able to get out of bed and she fired right up... so i figured id go for a spin around the neighborhood. bad idea. no brakes. so i filled up the res and bled. still no brakes. did a little trouble shooting and got a new MC, just waiting to bleed and then troubleshoot the rest of the system again this weekend. waiting on my egr block plates from LC. getting rid of my emissions BS, and gonna do the carb spring flip that ive been hearing about. I found a bed on craigslist in my small town for only $50 including lights and tailgate.NO BRAINER. So i had a buddy pick it up for me and help me pull mine. My bed had a horrible roll on rhino line done to it at some point and I absolutely hated it.. You can see both beds stacked in the background of one of the photos. i feel like my ride is so stiff because of blown out rear shocks... what are some of my options in this department? close to stock now.... im not ready to lower yet. The interior is a whole nother story..... Well. She aint pretty and she aint low. But what can you expect with NOLUX.
So I've been battling a broken leg. I shattered my tibial plateau in February and the docs are still telling me i can't put weight on it... .It's driving me absolutely insane.. Anyways, broke the rules and went out to truck a few times this week. I had already pulled the front grill and buckets and done some jbweld repairs on the non existent bucket mounts. sprayed them with a few coats of satin black and called it a day. did some bending on the bent bumper mounts and got that put back on. now im waiting on two new clear corner markers from Ebay. Should be here sometime this week. Then, after Oreillys ****ed up my rear shock order, i finally got around to putting the new shocks on. First i had ordered Sensa Tracs and paid. The wrong shocks show up and the truck is already sitting on blocks because I didn't bother opening up the box to make sure they were the right ones... anyways long story short i ended up getting an upgrade for no extra cost. Fine by me... so i jacked 'er up and threw these bad boys on. I've gotta wait for some help to put the new bed on and then I'm moving into a new place with a garage so im hoping i can start really digging into this truck. Adios.
I saw this on craigslist for awhile. Never got around to selling it I see... good. I think it has plenty of potential.
If you still have the old tailgate i would buy the "toyota" lettering from you. Very good work for having a broken leg so far. Cant wait to see more.
i had moved to Phoenix for school and couldnt take the truck so it sat at my moms for sale. broke my leg and had to come home so now its back to being my daily driver. id love to drop it but the roads up here would eat it alive.
Don't gotta go massive low. We deal with massive crap roads over here in eastern wa and i see a ton of slammed rides. Jut gotta pay more attention to the road a set of the same size tires would do wonders for that truck man!!! Awesome job on the grill though!!!
