Sorry if this is the wrong forum or whatever else but I hardly know anything about trucks and just had a couple questions.
First off, how do I remove all the emissions crap, which hoses and whatever... I heard that it will make it run smoother.

Second, there should be a photo attatched of some deal with 5 hoses coming out of it just behind the battery. I have no idea what ANY of them are, but the one on the far right doesn't connect to anything and leaks gas.

There is also another hose or 2 not connected to anything but ill deal with that later since it doesnt seem to be a problem at the moment.
Those are my main questions for now, so if I could get like a dummies answer on how to do this, I'd appreciate it.
This will be like my third time doing anything on a car.
    Thanks.

I am not "Mister know everything" about emissions but what I do know is if you have gas (and I assume you mean fuel) out of the line that connects to the far right connecting point of the VSV (vacuum switching valve) as pitured in your post, you have carb issues. I have attached a picture of the emissions diagram on the hood of my 78 Toy truck AND a california version. Just a side note, if shade tree mechanics have had their hands on this system, there is a good chance that none of it is connected correctly. I believe the reason for that is there are MANY variations based on the model of the vehicle and what state it was imported for. Your safest bet is to go off the diagram on the under the hood. 78 Pickup.jpg

20Rcalif.jpg Good luck and if you need more info, just ask, I have a library of literature for 78 Toyota trucks....

Correction to my previous post. I stated VSV when the component you are speaking of and is in your photo is the VCV (vacuum control valve)... Sorry if this lead to any confusion. either case fuel should not be coming off it ANYWHERE! good luck, later!
