My 1977 truck has 14" rims that do not have the dimples to accept the OEM dog bowl rims that I own. I guess the rims were replaced somewhere along the way. Anyone in the Dallas are have 4 stock rims for that year that they would sell? I would gladly give you my current rims that are freshly painted as part of the deal.
There are no decent stock rims for my truck closer than California according to the car-part.com database. The freight would eat me up and 4 rims would have to come from at least two scrap yards. It sux because I have BRAND NEW old stock dog bowl hubcaps for my truck. I think I will just go with aftermarket alloy rims that look classic- simple five spoke rims I guess. Do you have any suggestions on brand/model?
Just to be clear, do you have a photo specifically of the stock wheels you were looking for?! Also, someone on here recently used a bus line(Greyhound) to ship a whole transmission from State to State for a fraction of the normal cost . Look into that if nothing else pops up!
Yes, I have heard that Greyhound is a reasonable freight rate, but finding a scrap yard that would be willing to drop them off at Greyhound seems unlikely, even for a fee. Here is a (albeit small) pic of the rims for my 1977 truck. Other years in this gen had rims with round holes every 3-4" rather than the slots like the pic attached. As always, your insight is helpful and appreciated!
FYI, Greyhound nor Trailways bus lines offer bus freight any longer- they stopped in 2022. Only reasonable choice is U.S. Postal Service, and they want about $35.00 per wheel in shipping costs. That is O.K. if I could find decent OEM wheels somewhere, but the only ones I have found are pricey: $125.00 each. I think the best route is aftermarket, and I will sell my NOS dog bowl rims on eBay to help cover the costs of new rims and tires. ERWIN- I presume 15" rims will fit without an issue- would 16" fit too? Any chance you know what actual size and offset I should be hunting for?
These looks like the stock wheels off of the generation *after* these trucks (1979-83) They can accept the appropriate hubcaps for that generation of truck too!
Unfortunately- no. The rims I need have four dimples(?) that stick out around that round circle and that is what the hubcaps mount on. The wheels I have now have the same circle as your photo, but no dimples either.
Take a look at trailer wheels. Most are 14” x 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern (same as Toyota). Many accept baby moon hubcaps. You might be able to get that classic look similar to the dog bowls.
