    Hi guys

I'm undecided on the choice of engine so really just doing some research at the moment. My recently purchased RN16 is fitted with a 12R motor, and as far as I'm aware there are a few different versions.

How do I identify which one I have? It has a normal spin-on oil filter rather than a cartridge filter, if that helps at all.

It runs amazingly well.. a bit of a miss, but doesn't blow any spoke or anything and starts very easily so it is probably just a junk plug or something. I'll be giving it a freshen up, I know it'll never be a powerhouse but is there any benefit in a new cam/carb setup?

As of yesterday, 12R officially 'in the bin' :) It's actually being re-homed into an RT40 Corona so good to see it remaining in service, and also helping another old girl back on the road :)

Still awaiting word from my engineer as to whether I'll be able to get the 2JZ in legally.

If not, I'll have the hard decision:

    18RG
    22RE
    3RZ
    1UZ
    4AGZE (turbo'd)

I think they're about the only realistic options.

Ok so the 2JZ got knocked back "excessive power for vehicle application" they say.

I've never been that interested in the 3TG; they're also quite uncommon even here in Aust.

As far as I'm aware only Japan got the Beams 3SGE/6sp, we can get them without too much trouble but they're not particularly cheap. I can get 80% of the performance from an 18RG, whilst being much simpler to fit, wire, source parts for, and cheaper to buy & repair.

So, I've decided on an 18RG - should be good fun. Pick it up on Wednesday.
