hey guys Here is my Question? We did the Balljoint flip on My 76 Now we actually turned it upside down So I am looking for some specs on Balljoint diameter of the Shaft, is it the same size as the 79-83 balljoints or the 84-whatever year they end? Has anyone tried this? Here is another question, when completly laid out the steering becomes affected... Anythoughts? This must be why the guys that do the 70's modles cut the 86 from and add it. I'm Running 17's right now but I'm hoping after Body drop and bags are installed I have room for 20's atleast. Your Opinions are Valued.
he was or still is on SSM, I remember cause that was like the 2nd or 3rd HiLux to finally show up on there after mine http://www.streetsource.com/Member_Rides/16348_loluxtrux-1975-Toyota-2wd-Pickup.aspx
i'd really recommend using a 84-95 front clip. the stock stuff laid out on a small rim/tire has a nasty amount of camber, and i'm having trouble imagining it stuffing a 20 without a huge z (needs to be z'd alot to truly lay frame already). my front suspension is all based on the 84/95 dimensions except i narrowed the lower arms 1/2" per side, and moved the uppers in 1/2" per side to correct the camber. i'm using a 20x8.5 wheel with a -28 offset and a 225/30/20. if you use a high offset wheel (around -35 to -40's) then you would be able to use a stock 84/95 clip. also my 20's only have less then 1/2" before they touch the hood, so you have to stay with a really low pro tire. the 79-83 spindle still requires the lower balljoint to point down. flipping it like you did MIGHT work for the 84/95 spindles, but i haven't actually seen it done. i've also heard that balljoints are designed to have the pressure applied in a certain direction. so maybe try to retro fit a 84/95 lower balljoint into the 76 arm. also flipping the spindle side to side to make the steering work kind of scares me, but it might be fine. another option for the balljoints could be to get moog part #'s k727 and k772 along with the weld in cups from Speedway Motors - Street Rod Parts, Race Parts, Ford Flathead Parts, Sprint and Midget Racing Parts, Pedal Car Parts, and clearance the stock arms to fit the cup and weld it in.
Hey Bernie you allways amaze me with your detailed answers... Thanks for being here and Partisipating We are Playing it by ear, gona go to the local Pull a Part and see if different balljoints will fit...
