Hey all, I'm a long time Toyota man who just got a '90 pickup for a driver and project vehicle. I have had many Toyotas over the years and currently have a 22RTE powered '83 Celica, and an '85 Celica that will receive the heart of a Supra (7MGTE) over this winter. With the projects I have on the go a truck will be a welcome addition. I was referred to this board by ShoNuff, who also frequents the Celica-GTS forums.

Unlike most here, my truck won't be my primary project (for now at least:) ) but I do have some plans for it. It needs body work- all of it needs body work. Every panel has a ding or two, the box is gray, the cab is red. In spite of this, it is solid and fairly rust-free, so I plan on replacing the fenders, the valance, and a door with new panels. After that, a little tweaking should bring the rest of it into line, and then a backyard paintjob will finish it off, for now.

Tomorrow morning I am going to check out a 22RE with harness, sensors, ECU, transmission, etc. with about 30,000 miles on it, to possibly replace my miled-out 22R carb job. I talked to the guy today, trying to find out how all of this stuff would be for sale at once. Turns out it was in a Winnebago (small one, I guess), and the owner swapped in a Yota V6 for more highway power. If it's good, it will all come home and go into my truck. For now.

It's good to be here, I'm sure I will have a lot of questions for you guys, and hopefully even a few answers.

You know the other me, now I'm a truck guy. :) Seriously, even with a turbo car to drive every day, I've been taking the truck everywhere since I bought it. I really enjoy driving it, and love being able to just throw **** in the back. If it only had a little more jam....

Which leads to the 22RE I looked at today. It came out of a camperized '88 chassis. It's an early engine, with the '88 EFI. The owner was aware of this fact, and didn't try to BS me. (credibility points ;) ) Owner claims 30,000 miles on it since installed. PO had a "new" (rebuilt?) engine installed when the original had the timing chain eat through the front cover. Whatever the story, it looks good. Comes with a W55, an auto trans (not sure which, probably an A340), clutch, all external accessories, complete EFI (sans O2 sensor, which is in the tailpipe ??) ,all for $500.

All that would be needed would be an O2 sensor, a fuel pump, return line, some relays and some wiring to make it work. I think with the slightly higher output of the RE over the carb, combined with the closer gear spread of the W55, it should make my little truck a little quicker in traffic. Should be enough for now, but you know, there is a spare 7mgte in the garage....

    Not me...
I've seen a vid like that, it was an older Celi than mine. I don't usually beat my car like that, unless I'm at the track.

As for the 7M, I don't have time for it. The carby engine that's in the truck now has almost 300,000 km on it, so I just want to get something with a little more life left in it for now. Once the 7M Celica swap is done, maybe I can try to squeeze one into the truck.

Just got home with the goodies, my truck now has 2 engines, 3 trannys, 2 rads, 1 carb, 1 EFI system, and even a few other spare parts thrown in. It's gonna take a while to sort this crap out..... :)

welcome to the forum. Love the celica.

Did you use the 22ret harness and ecu for you turbo celica? I bought an 87 toy truck with a 22ret swap using the early celica ecu and 5 speed tranny. It runs pretty good @ 7-10 pounds boost. There's no fuel cut and I have revved it to 7000 rpm with no problems. I like the set up so much that I am picking up another 22ret / early celica ecu and tranny to drop into my 81 corolla wagon. I'm still new to turbo/efi but it's fun as hell.

Please grace us with your 22ret knowledge.:)

if so it was me :D

    sorry for the thread hi-jack.

but back on topic, i like driving my hilux more then the celica for day to day stuff. not having to figure out how to not F up the interior is nice when i have to haul stuff, and its a ton more comfy not being in a track setup car in traffic. tho i could prolly crush coal into diamonds with my left foot.
