I'm probably going to go with a fan when I install the engine. What cfm does these motors need to work properly.

What junkyard fans fit that will work? I have seen reference to taurus fans, but which motor?

    Thanks

    Larry

this is what im running on my converted over 73. Its cheap and it does its job. my 73 has a 22r in it now, but this was the only fan i could find to fit since the motor is so close to my rad. It cools my truck plenty. I did just over heat this past weekend but thats cause the weld on my radiator neck broke, not the fans fault.

That seems like a clean install.. good thing about this mod., it's not real expensive.

On that intake, with the open air filter,is that the factory airbox attached in front of it?

    Here's what I got

With a body drop in the works, an electric fan was called for. I found this Zirgo fan on Craigs for 40 bucks BNIB. This thing is advertised to push/pull +3000CFM of air. I'll let you know how it goes. I got lucky, They ARE pricey compared to other fans. Heres a link about them:

This is the one I got: Zirgo-ZFU16S

oh i forgot to say, i dont have a 22r radiator in my truck, i could only fit the 8rc rad in the front end. We rewelded the necks so they were alligned with the 22r inlets and outlets. maybe thats why i can only fit a 12 inch fan and you guys got a 16 inch.

mine still runs cold though, takes FOREVER to warm up in the mornings when driving it

When I reworked the Shelby Charger for my daughter, (new rad, elec. fan, thermostat, water pump) It does the same thing as far as taking longer to warm up. Didnt know it could be done too well. Lol I was wondering if I would run into the same problem with this truck.

I do well to weld up an exhaust pipe,, and It's usually pretty ugly. So I guess I wont be doing an aluminum welding. "A man has gotta know his limitations"

You should still mount your fan pulley, you need to keep your water pump. Unless there is a mod I'm not aware of.

One of the 1st thing i did on my 20R was replace the stock fan with a electric fan I bought at a discount tool and parts store for $25. It was cheap and it works great.

there's no one answer to the CFM question, it depends on the particulars of your truck like if you've got AC and how well your cooling system transfers heat, how hot your motor's running (I've seen huge variances between some motors), your control system, the climate/weather you're in, and what you can get/want to pay.

Taurus: any that have the one huge fan behind the radiator.
I've got a 98 pontiac bonneville fan I had on my S10 that would easily overcool it (90 hp I4 with 5M celica supra radiator and huge grille) and caused the engine to fall on it's face at idle on the high setting. course I only actually needed to turn it on maybe 3 times while it was in, sitting in traffic in chicago in 90f weather for than 5 minutes and the temp would get over 200f lol. too big of a radiator, I blocked half the grill up to 65f. below 40 I blocked 100% of the grille unless I was driving more than 10 miles and I'd open about 1" square.
