I'm debating about putting a sweet engine in my 71... I haven't touched under the hood, but its really the next logical place for me to clean up/ customize. This thing is only for show, so i'm not trying to build some high HP monster, I just want something thats period correct-ish. I was thinking about trying to adapt some weber side drafts but because of the layout of the exhaust and intake, I'm pretty sure the carbs would hit the mastercyl... anyhow, ya'll all seem to be engine geniuses so let me know. IF you have any cost or availability info that would be great. I love crazy rare engines as much as the next guy but if I can't get my hands on one for less than 10k then i'm kinda out ya know? LMAO... Go...
twin cam 18rg if you can find one. it would probably have to shipped from AU. any Toyota diesel, or a VW rabbit diesel. Mazda 13B. nice truck
+2 for a 18rg. epic motor, only a couple years newer then the truck if that. cross flow head with the carbs on the opposite side of your 8r. and it comes with dual mikuni's. or if you really want to go full retard, some how come up with a 3v ('67-'73 V8). would have to come from another country, but would be epic indeed.
I looked that up, found some info including a intake manifold for a carb. Kinda cool... But yeah... way off on the period correctness. I can't even find anything on the internet about that, so you'll have to tell me a little more. Thats the first engine mentioned that I actually know what it is... and no... LMAO..
+2 on an 18RG. 2.0 toyota 4 banger that is a 8 valve twin cam. Parts are still avalible if you know where to look and they can still be found. Came in early celicas and trucks IIRC.
Old benz diesel would be cool. Keep it 4cyl or v8. Inline 6 would take away from a clean simple bay. A 3tc would be cool though maybe. And since you're not looking for power maybe a 4age?
I just don't know what any of these engines are... LOL I feel like I asked for the solution to a quantum physics problem.
your truck has a really neat militaristic , utilitarian look to it,that a diesel engine would really compliment. and with no ignition needed would be for a very clean swap
