which one will be the most cost friendly, strongest and reliable? the 22r isnt puttin out enough juice for my likings..goin in an 81
I'm playing with the idea of a 4.3 Vortec swap with a 4L60 behind it, but of course that all depends on money... LOL! There are swap mounts and headers for them, and even bellhousing swaps to mate to a stock Toyota trans. I'd just grab 'em off Ebay, Northwest OffRoad seems to be hard to get a hold of. I see the mounts on Craigslist here about once a week too.
I've seen 'em in many early Celicas and they have smaller engine compartments, and if a SBC will fit in there I'd say no problem. I'm sure someone's done the swap before.
Yep, just need an adapter and to tune it. Lots of people swap Webers on. You can find the adapters and the tuning kits on Ebay.
ok so ive done some more homework and decided 1jz is where i would like to head. any other modifications need to be made in order for optimal performance?
gotta bring this thread back.. odometer is reading 38,xxx. motor is dragging and the transmission is grindin and slipping..the setup is tired. i dont have the space to do the swap myself so im looking for the cheapest and quickest engine/tranny swap possible. i realize a new 22r setup would be it, but as i stated earlier its just not givin me enough power. (realistic) ideas are welcome as this is my daily ride and i dont have a senators income..
buy an lcenginering motor it has way more power than stock. Or you can get yours rebuilt and bored out .040 over with an early model 20r head and a 38 weber or dual carbs. Theres lots of things you can do to get more power out of these motors.
No such thing as a cheap, quick and easy motor swap. Im halfway thru mine and it plain sux. Fitting and positioning takes forever. But If your set on it, 302 small block ford (to toyota) mounts are available. Cant remember where. Fox body oil pan. And thats most of the battle right there.
