Okay guys need your help I plan on tackling swapping my current 4spd from my 89 2wd 22r to a 5spd from my 84 long bed 22r..

Here is where Im confused my 89's code says as follows G662/G40 so I have a 3.07 with a 8' Diff I have never heard of the G series transmissions.

My 84 Iam pretty sure it is a W56 Is it possible to swap the transmissions and what mods would have to be done and would the speedo cable work?

    Cut the floor maybe...

Ive heard somewhere that a G trans to anything else will move the shifter back inches.

Yes, cutting the floor will be needed... How much depends on which W58 you get... You will also need the tranny mount bracket that bolts to the cross member from a donor truck that had a W-series 5 speed in it...

The "G" series bellhousings do not interchange with the "W" so pick wisely when hunting for your W58...

'82-'85 22RE powered Celica's are your donor cars... All others sit behind the 5M/7M/1JZ/2JZ engines and will need a bellhousing swap...

    Good luck!

Should be a w56 in that longbed so don't get confused with the w58 B.Y.E. is talking about. This is a fairly simple swap...just take it out and put it in kinda thing. Use your original driveshaft and your good to go. And you midas well change your clutch while you got the tranny out.

used a w56 out of a 94 in my 86 that had the 4 speed and 3:07 rear end. made it really nice on the highway and launch approaches since the gears stretched out just a little. i could cruise the freeway doing 80mph @ 3000 rpms......

i had to notch the floor just a tiny bit to clear but that was it.
