OK, This is wierd to say the least, I was doing some changes to the aftermarket gauges in my rig, added a couple, moved some around, ect. after all was done and ready for a test, fired up the rig and everything worked fine except the tach, it worked fine before and I never messed with it during this upgrade so was a little puzzled as to why, so I started checking wires to see if something got unhooked or cut somewhere, all was fine, had good ground, had power, lights worked, had continuity to coil end on trigger wire, still no worky, so I snipped the signal wire at the rear of the tach to run a new signal wire just to be certain it didn't have a issue there, DAMN!! the tach now works????????? connect the signal wire back up and no work, unhook and it works??? under dash electrical gremlins, aliens, who knows, but it still unhooked and working fine so I left it like that. :D No more gauges, I,m tired of pulling the dash apart, at least for a while.

:D These old trucks must be the tweekers preffered choice, yours, Shonuff just recently bought a tweeky truck, and my 75, was also owned by a crackhead when I got it, talk about a bright bunch, get this, the crackhead that had mine had it stolen by other crackheads, the police found it in another town about 200 miles away sitting on a corner with a for sale sign in the window with the idiots that stole its phone number, original crackhead got it back, and thats when I ran across it and bought it originally for a parts rig, but ended up doing a full build on it and returned it to the road in its present not normal condition.

my 75 does the same thing

and since i upgraded to a electric ignition the truck will run for 20-30sec after i shut it off, ONLY if the heater fan is on
if the fans off the truck shuts right off, go figure.

luckily besides some missing fuzes and a missing key, all the "crack mods" to the 78 were mostly cosmetic. and one set of F'd up shock mounts.

Try this . . . And Ive searched and tryed to narrow this one down, I bypassed, I unhooked, Ive tryed everything SOO I know its going to be an easyone, and IM very good with electrical and its got me stumped. On my green machine ( hence font color ) When I step on the brakes, all the dash lights and park lights come on. Talk about a stumper!

Good luck guys with your gremlins, more than likely they are something simple, a wire tapped somewhere it shouldn't be or a ground issue.
Fortunately I haven't had any problems other than the tach deal but I,m sure its something I overlooked as it has 3 different signals going to the coil area, I musta missed a connection somewhere thats still providing the tach to work. With all the changes to the wiring in mine its a miracle I don't have sparks flying out from under the dash :)
Heres a few pix of the gauge setup I,m running, there is also an overhead small console not pictured that houses 2 more gauges and 2 digital panel meters to monitor the main and auxillary battery, its not installed yet, maybe this weekend I'll get it finished up.

my s-10 does the same thing sometimes, they have a problem with the hazard switch breaking, i jammed a screw where the plastic knob thing was and it made all the lights come on when i pushed the brakes. maybe there is something in the dash that is crossing.
