Well plans got sped up as my other truck had a fuel leak and burned down so the 2wd "travis" truck got put into high gear as the new daily driver beater truck. Fixed the timing chain and all the other little problems and ready for inspection. She's inspected as of today and runs like a champ. Here are the pics. When i brought it home.

and how it sits today driving and hauling back on the road. After a little work and a couple days in the garage it runs well and seems reliable.

Mods for the future are as follows in order of importance.
Rear brakes, one is dragging the other is probably not far behind
front bumper as you can see along with valance
    new rims and tires
body work body work and more body work
power steering hehe not used to the whole wreslte the steering wheel.
paint tint then and maybe then dig back into the motor to boost up the power
would also like a hd clutch but that'll happen when the old one fails.

here are some pics of the old truck. had it for 10 years and loved it. Too bad it went up in flames. And no it wasn't salvageable within a reasonable means.

I love my BASEMODEL - vinyl floor covers ftw!

For those of you wondering how it went up look at the thread i linked it has all the info you'll want. I ended up selling the 4x4 so no part out but. I'm having one helluva time with the new down pipe install. It doesn't seem to want to seal and has thoroughly pissed me off. Went through two sets of gaskets, stripped out the bolts on the manifold that connect the down pipe and punched the black fender leaving a nice dent. I'm pretty close to saying f---k it and throwing a cheapo header like pacesetter on it and stop dealing with this stock bull sh-t exhaust. Down side is the walker part for the down pipe was 140 bucks and i'll be super pissed if that was all going to waste for a two hundred dollar header set up. I might just drive around with the exhaust leak for awhile.

made some progress today with a little paint and some time. Painted the fender and the rims so the little monster doesn't look too bad cruising down the street.
Next week brakes then bumper and valance.

this is just temporary as i will eventually be doing the body work properly to make this truck right but i'm daily driving it as of last week so i gotta do what i gotta do. I can't wait to get a nice set of rims for this thing.

dude you should make those tires into wider whitewalls. I've been wanting to try it but I don't have any tires with white on the side. I would love to see it done by someone on here;)

would be cool but i'm going to get some new rims and tires for it. Not a big fan of the small rims less grip on the pavement thing. I've already managed to break the rear loose driving around and would rather it hook up when i hit the gas.

Anybody have a link to a good write up on the front brakes for these trucks? I've done the 4x4 brakes and assuming the front brakes on here are easier. Tips tricks?

no they were easy after a little pb blaster. The side brackets on the other hand snapped both bolts. lucky i had some extras in the shop. Thanks again 89dlx47 the trucks looking almost presentable.

thanks for the write up link for the brakes. I might consider that as a viable option if i get rims first. Next on the list is rims and tires. Like these.

That's if they fit without spacers or modding anything. So if anybody knows different please let me know as i'm most likely picking up a set of these in the next few weeks or so.

Figured i'd post up some progress for you guys following along.
Spent the whole day yesterday in my garage working on the little beast. I started with the parking brake cable and to be honest it was waay more of a pain in the butt than i gave it credit for. Took a couple of hours but i figured it out and managed to hit some speed bumps along the way. Parking brake works now as does the light.
Next was tackling the cooling system. It works just not up to my standards. The t-stat opens and closes but not fast enough or efficiantly. With the t-stat working the way it did the crappy hoses from autoadvanceo'rielly whatever would drip and left coolant puddles on my driveway. I drained the coolant and cleaned up ther radiator fittings along with the t-stat housing and finished the job with fresh coolant and new toyota hoses and t-stat. With the cooling system bled and the truck no longer leaking i went ahead and changed the oil to check for any problems since the timing chain was replaced. Everything is good and the oil was clean. After that i went ahead and replaced the windshield wiper arms as the screws were rusted and my jerry rigged fix it for now wasn't up to snuff.
That's about it for now i'm gonna wait until the tires wear out some before i go ahead and get rims for it. Only other thing is upgrades and they will happen as i go. Merry Christmas and have a good new year.

been a while since i updated the thread. Replaced the brake pads, passenger side caliper, oil, filter, plugs, wires, rotor, cap, adjusted the valves, and greased the chassis. This thing runs awesome. Gas mileage is good but i'm not sure what i'm running. Might calculate it next weekend. No outside changes yet for looks. It's still ugly as sin but that's it's only fault thus far. By the way for those of you reading and have trucks that lack the power steering option, make sure your tire pressure is set and even as if the tires get just a little low i notice the steering gets crappy. No pics sorry guys but it looks the same just running better.

Often those things get overlooked. I'm glad it's running well.
