Earlier today i missed a gear pretty bad from 1st to 2nd, was wearing sandles and my foot slipped off clutch halfway through the shift, making it grind horribly.

after that it wouldnt go in any gear for a second but 2nd and 5th, now every gear works perfectly fine besides theres no 1st at all, and 2nd grinds a bit if you put it in while moving - is a rebuild in order or is there other things to check first?

also what should i do to make it last long enough to get this fixed if it's pretty serious?

does reverse work? if i remember right most trannys use the same gear for first and reverse, maybe you messed up the synchro between 1st and 2nd

yeah reverse works perfectly fine, just 2nd grinds on downshift and no first at all

my syncro has been off a little since i got this truck, will grind if i snatch 2nd gear, think it's just the syncro?

sounds like something is wrong internally, i dont think the syncro would keep it from getting first. will it go into first while the engine is off?

I'm not sure on the 89-95 models but anything before this was bad for blowing reverse out. Sometimes first would go but mostly it would be reverse. Anyway I blew reverse on 2 different trucks I owned. One grenaded the tranny shortly after and the first one I did it to I drove it around for over 6 months before I fixed it. So basically it's your call on how soon you want to fix it or not. It could last awhile or it could genade tomorrow. :( Hope this helps.

STOP DRIVING IT, Its only making it worse. Either rebuild it or buy a rebuilt one

My advice is to drive it until it blows(or until you are able to change it), but at the same time throw some money aside for when and if it blows so you aren't caught off guard. Like I said, it could last awhile or it could blow up tomorrow.
