Hi all! I traded a set of tires for a '93 truck (2x4). The p.o. had tapped a deer which bent in the grill/radiator/supports. He then had the hood pop open while doing 65 and had the hood wrap over the windshield. So, he redneck engineered a fix (see pics).

As far as I can tell, the hinges bent closed a bit and the hinge mounts got pushed back a bit. This causes the hood to catch on the cowl and the wipers. I have searched the board and found a few places that have replacement hinge arms, but am not sure this will move the hood forward enough to fix the problem. I bought another hood yesterday, so I am in the process of cleaning up this truck. But, it catches on the cowl and wiper mounts like the bent up hood. Is there a fix or are the hinge mounts going to continually be a problem? Would a set of race hinge pins be a better solution? Any help would be appreciated!

Yea that's what I would do too. 4 corner hood pins. They can be found for cheap. But you can also get really nice ones. And for ease of hood removal you could cut out the hood supports underneath to make it really light.

I think your going to have to pull the entire front apart to see what real damage has been done before buying new parts. I do agree the easiest way would be 4 hood pins if it is damaged beyond repair.

Well, found a hood locally. Got the hood and a passenger side fender for $110. Pulled the hinges out and chained them to my HiLift jack and "stretched" them back closer to stock. Then had to us a BFH to make them flat again. I then took some chain and wrapped it around the center radiator support. Using a ratchet strap used to secure a vehicle onto a trailer (and rated at 10,000 lbs) I hooked one end to my Jeep and the other to the chain. I then slowly ratcheted the strap thus pulling the support back to its' original location. Now, the hood secures to the latch without any problems. The result is below. I took a set of stock Jeep tires/wheels I had to replace the bald rollers. I was pleased that the bolt pattern for the rims was the same (saving me money for now). I am putting together an order from PartsTrain.com that will include a new grill for $20. Total cost on this ride so far... $110! :clapping: It needs new shocks badly so... what should I do to it?

glad you fixed it instead of using hood pins lol

i think they look ghetto if they're not used on a race car.

i think you should bag and bodydrop it!

Very well done man. I would suggest lowering it first unless you have the money then i would go with bagging it. But if your going to lower it i would go with some toxic shocks. Keep it up man

It looks great. I spent an entire weekend with my hood hinges and a hammer just trying to get it close to original shape.
