What's up guys, my name's Brandon. Last night I drove 450 miles round trip after I got out of class for the afternoon. I went to pick up a '75 Longbox that appeared to be in pretty good shape from the one picture I saw and what the guy told me. I'll get on to the pics, and then a couple of questions.

I started it, took it for a short cruise...everything seemed legit. I made it about 30 miles and started smelling a oil. Stopped to check it out and my air cleaner was leaking oil. Neat! I've search and read to check/replace the pcv valve. The problem is, I can't get a new grommet for it anywhere. Is it possible to just get a newer 20r valve cover and then run that year pcv valve and grommet? Or what is my best solution?
Damn, I hope that's what it is and I don't need to tear this thing down already.

Also, here are a couple pics of my '82 Datto KingCab. I bought it at the beginning of the summer and have driven it a total of about 100 miles since. I threw a weber on it then it developed a knock. Put in a newer motor (92k), clutch, windshield, brakes, wheel cylinders and then lowered it on blocks and cranked torsions. Oh, and painted it.

Those are some sweet trucks!! I really like the 75 and what good condition.

On the side? Do you live in Grand Forks? That really looks like Grand Forks, ND to me. I used to live there two years ago...welcome to TM by the way!

Ah, I paid a fair price I believe...
Any ideas on my valve cover issue? Why is the 75-76 different?

    Well congrats...

regarding the valve cover issue, i am not real familiar with the 20r, but i believe a 20r is a 20r, you should be able to replace with a different year. Someone feel free to correct me if i am wrong

The early 20R valve cover used the larger metal oil cap with a lower profile boss where it screws in, the later cover had a taller boss with a smaller plastic screw in cap. The grommet should be the same for both covers, don't know if you can get one seperate at the parts store, they come in engine overhaul gasket sets, possibly even in a valve grind set too, or the dealer should be able to hook you up.
Any of the 20/22R valve covers will bolt on, but if you use a later 22R square nose cover with the dual chain used in the 20R you will need to trim the oil baffle under the oil cap or it will rub on the timing chain.

Nice! Thanks for the info man. I called the dealer and the parts stores today and got the same info from everyone....they can all get the pcv valve but can't get the grommet for the '75 for some reason... they could get them both for 77-newer though.

Well, hopefully figure out what the deal is with it blowing oil all over the place first. I also need to figure out why I has no heater fan. I haven't even looked at any of the fuses or anything yet. After that, not too sure. I've recently worked out a deal for an 84 xtra cab as well, but it sounds like that is getting traded for a custom frame with rx-7 irs. So, that could end up under this. The same dude I'm trading the 84 to dropped me a line on a 69-72 that I've been looking for for awhile now. If I pick that up, this will just get static dropped and driven.

I appreciate the help guys. I got the pcv valve and grommet replaced today. No help. So, judging by what I've read, that means I need to either a. rebuild or b. replace...
So, my next question is this. I have an '84 22r with 5 speed that I could put in it. Is this a direct swap? Pull it out of the 84 and drop it into the 75? Would I need to swap driveshafts or anything like that? Even with the internet at my disposal, I just cannot find much tech information on the swap.

Well, I'm putting my Datsun up for sale. Gonna have to start dumping some funds into the Toyota. And my wifey already hates me. Living in an apartment just isn't going to work with 3 pickups, her car and my ruckus.
I'm going to start my 22r swap this weekend. If I just pull the one from the '84, it'll bolt right up, won't have to change anything out. Correct? Is the wiring any different?
