Isn't it just unbolting the leaf spring an then putting the block ontop of it an using longer u bolts bolting it back up?
i lifted my truck and put the rear on jackstands, then put the jack under one side of the axle, take off the ubolts and slowly lower the axle down from the leaf springs, insert block, install new u-bolts, tighten down to spec, repeat on other side. i would drive it a week or so then re-tighten down the u-bolts, mine came loose after driving a bit, then after i re-torqed it they were good.
so i took the u bolts off and discovered that there is a bolt and nut in the middle of the leaf spring that screws into the axle..do i unscrew that to separate axle from leaf spring and then place lowering block in between?
uh...mine didnt have a screw...just a stud kinda thing that settled into leafs if i remember correctally. have you tried lifting up on the axle with the jack yet?
are you planning to do the midleaf removal? If yes, you can remove that bolt holding the leaf springs together, but pry back the clamps before doing so. It'll drop, be careful. Anyway, best way to get it off is using a 6pt socket, 12mm i THINK. and on the round side, i used a big giant multi position plier. ASIDE from that, you can leave that bolt thing in. Do you have the centering block? Anyway, old pics.
It was like legos to me. The leafs have a bolt. The blocks have a "pin" on the top side, a hole on the bottom. The centering block itself had a hole for the leaf's centering pin. So.... Centering block on top of 3" block, on top of leaf.
i got it i was jacking up the leaf springs instead of the axle itself which was preventing me from getting the separation. that middle bolt i was tlaking about was actually part of belltechs design and was a center bolt keeping the leafs together. one final question though: in order to get the ends of my ubolts to fit through the retaining plate holes, i had to bow them in about a 1/4-1/2 inch...is this going to be an issue?
nah, when you torq everything down everything will line up. When ubolts get shipped they sometimes get bent kinda wacky. congrats on the mod let the addiction begin!!!
now my next question is pretty repetitive but i cant seem to find the information im looking for: how to locate and adjust the torsion bars. is it in front of/ next to my front shock (the bar angling in from the wheel to the front of the truck?) or is it next to-/ behind the shock and runs parallel with the truck (ending in about the middle of the truck?)
its the bar ending in the middle of the truck, if you roll under there you will see 2 bolts that go to a lever that attaches to the long bar connected to the lower control arms. There is big crossmember kinda even with the middle of the door, those big bolts are the adjusters, loosen them up and the car will drop. make sure you keep the truck even though. Also you might want to lift the truck up a bit when you adjust em so you dont get your self stuck under it lol
