Hopefully somebody here will help me figure this out. The "squeak" only happens when im in reverse, and it speeds up the faster as the truck goes faster. Ive looked into a wheel rubbing issue no go there. It mainly sounds like a belt squeaking, but if it was the belt wouldn't it do it in forward as well? I've noticed too that it only makes that noise when i let the clutch out in reverse. I've recently changed the gear oil in the tranny, nothing else has been done to the truck. Any help would be appreciated. If needed I can upload a video to show what i mean.

 

no, the squeak doesn't stop when applied the brakes but, it does stop when coasting and the transmission is in neutral. If in reverse and on the gas the squeak gets faster. The noise is like a pulse, if your going slow in reverse the noise is slow the faster you go in reverse the faster the noise gets. Its not a solid noise, it's a repetitive noise.

 

the answer both your questions are yes, it is tied to the speed of the truck and it doesn't get louder just faster.

 

LOL, my truck JUST started doing the exact same thing! but mine sounds like its coming from under the bed, maybe even the clutch..

 

sorry for the poor quality camera phone, if you can hear it the noise is at 10 sec or 12 sec. and at 33-35 sec

jack up the rear end off the ground (block the front duh!)
and put it into reverse, idling off engine, see where it comes from.

and be smart about it, having an axle off the ground with wheels spinning isn't safe.

Do you have a 2-piece driveshaft?

Could be U-joints or center bearing if it's a 2-piece driveshaft...

 

I just don't want it to fall on you. if the wheels are spinning too fast, don't even try lol....



anyway, i figured it'd be the easiest way to hear the squeak yourself from whatever place its coming from.
