ok so here is the deal. first the battery slowly died. so i replaced the altenator. every thing seemed fine for about a week then the battery started to die again. the blinkers also quit working.
so i checked out the battery and it was old so i went ahead and replaced it with a red top. well the red top also died.
when this happened the next battery put in it just to get it home didnt work. the 80A alt. fuse was blown. after replacing that all that happened was the altenator belt was melted and frayed in two.

i've talked to some one who had the same issue and he said it was a sending unit wire or something, under the dash next to the steering column. i dont think he knew what he was talking about.

does any one know whats going on or have had the same problem?
    thanks for the help guys
    david.

Sounds to a point it could be a grounding problem. Let me sleep on it

COuld be the sending wire that comes from the alternator to show the alternator light in the dash, it is a Hot circuit and it runs a test when you turn the key to the run position, trace that wire throughout all its travels and see if it is perhaps grounding out. Now you cant just eliminate the wire, it is a circuit that also allows the alternator to receive its acc current, any break in this wire or any charging wire will result in a power loss. What happens is, you turn the key, the battery send a power signal through the ignition, thru the light, to the alternator to which energizes it. this would also explain why you problems last about a week or so. Did you cut into any wire for power usage recently?

well i put in a new radio head unit. i did have to splice all the wires myself b/c the factory harness had already been removed. and i put fog lights on but i didnt cut into any wire to do so.
could i have left an open wire behind the radio? it cant be that simple can it?

U bet it can! Ive heard of people spending thousands for something that costs not even $1 to fix, retrace everything you did before the problems started, its way worth it and totally no shame in making a mistake, actually it helps ya learn by it!
