So yesterday my truck dies out on the freeway. Wont start up. Right before that it started making a weird sound, like when one window is down and the other is only cracked and the wind is blowing through, that helicopter sound, like that. Then my truck starts to bog out, RPMs drop, i pull off to the side and the truck dies out. Wont start. cranks but doesnt turn over. We checked spark, got spark. I just did tune up last week. I just plugged some vacuum lines last week. so im thinking its fuel pump or fuel filter. Anyone got any methods to try besides cracking the line open? Anyone think its something else?
So i tried to break the line going to the filter and no success, my open ends just slide. Anyone got any more suggestions?
check at the cold start injector ( its the banjo fitting at the side on the intake ) its got constant fuel pressure when the truck is running, crack it and crank it over, if fuel shoots out you got pressure, if it drizzles out you got problems.
Do you have a picture of where i can find this? I found where the line comes up and turns into a hard line but cant crack that one. Wheres this banjo?
K i cracked the gas line. Got gas. Rechecked spark, got spark. checked fuse boxes, all there. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions?
Its a 22RE. Timing chain was done recently. Tune up done last week. Im thinking since i got fuel the pump and filter is working, so im thinking its something else. The starter cranks, i can hear it spinning. Also on a side note, i plugged vaccum lines last week. When i was trying to start the truck, a couple of the caps blew off. Found that quite odd. Anyone got any other ideas though?
I'd put all those vacuum lines back where they came from... Some of those vacuum lines control your Fuel regulator and EGR "VSV" switches just to name a few... I don't see any performance gains by deleting vacuum lines on a fuel injected motor... If anything it'll drop your gas mileage... I'd also check for any trouble codes... Good luck!
Yeah now that i think about it, something must have cause the cap to explode off (i havent found it & its bright red). Smoke was also coming out of the intake mani. Weird. Anywho, i just finished digging through the rubbish for all the hoses. Going put them back tomorrow and see how that goes. Would there be a reason why it ran for a while without them and now suddenly died?
make sure that the ignitor wires from the coil to the dizzy are still attached.... the same thing happend to me and it was those wires
Yeah all wires are still attached. Just did a tune up next week so everything pug related should be top shape.
My 22re did something similar. Ended up being my fuel filter pickup braket. The piece the pump mounts on. I found one of my wires was not making a solid conntection. Replaced and fired right up.
Dang its a bitch to get to the filter. And thats what i dont understand. I plugged the lines like last week. Made a couple short drives. Then drove to school(25 miles one way) and on the way to work this happened(about 28miles). Weird. I going reattach the lines and see what happens.
Ok, reattached the vaccum lines and nothing. Also i just remembered something. The random chance that the motor wants to start up, it backfires. It would pop once, a loud bang. Knowing that, i dont think its fuel related, i think its spark related. Cause a backfire means theres gas but no spark right? Im not sure. Just trying to provide as much information as possible. Also i checked timing. Put it to tdc and pulled the cap. Everything lines up. Anyone got any more suggestions?
I pulled the #1 plug. It smelled like gas and was a little light brown, but nothing that looked to funny. I never checked trouble codes, how do i do that? I look at the ECU and count how many times it flashes after i crank it? Thanks for trying to help guys. I appreciate it.
How about the rest of the plugs? U can't diagnose with just the #1 plug... Jump pins TE1 and E1 with a paper clip or small piece of wire on the diagnostics box (passenger fender well). Turn the ignition to "ON" *do not start it. Count the sequence of flashes/blinks of the check engine light. If it just stays a steady series of flashes there is no codes stored... Examples: flash *short pause* flash, flash = Code 12 flash *long pause* flash *short pause* flash, flash, flash = Codes 1 and 13 and so on.... Good luck!
