This looks like a great forum! To introduce myself, I've got a 1985 Toyota longbed delux that I bought new in October of 1984. It's been stolen and recovered twice, and is now pretty much an experiment in abuse and neglect! I now only drive it to work and back (10 mile round trip), and the occasional odd job, and that's about it. This truck has been amazing, which is why I bought it. I knew of people who had Toyota trucks that just lasted forever, and that's what I wanted. Once in a while I have to make another truck payment (when the next part fails) but that's about it. I am now dealing with an oil leak that showed up after replacing the center bearing on the propeller shaft, and the rear transmission output seal. Please see my post in 1984-1988 Engine/Drivetrain: http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7488 Thanks! Wayne
Welcome to TM. So besides the oil leak problem what are the plans for it? Do you have any pics? Where in ca do you live?
I am in Riverside, and right now I plan to keep it until the wheels fall off! No mods, just basic transportation. It is great for what it is, and if I sold it I couldn't get anything that would come close to it for the money.
Thanks for all the welcomes! Trust me, you don't want to see any pics, it would only make you cry to see the neglect!
See thats where your wrong. On here we dont care the shape it is in , we probley seen worse. So after that is said, where is the pics out
OK, you've asked for them, so here are some photos of my truck, affectionately known as "Old Blue", in all of it's natural neglected beauty. As bad as it looks, it still is like a comfortable old shoe to me, and I can't imagine getting rid of it! Back in the day I had nicer wheels and tires, and even a camper shell, but the wheels were stolen (I still had the originals in my garage, so they went right back on), and the shell died of old age, so now this is it.
Where is that second pic taking at? Just to let you no the truck is not even close to as bad as you said. 100 bucks if that cleans that up and looking brand new.
All the pics were taken where I work, at the Riverside Police Aviation hangar. And it would be kinda tough to make it look new with half the paint gone and rust showing!
Police aviation? I think one of them heli's were chasing me the other day haha of course i was in LA so it could have been the chic next to me driving backwards on the freeway. Bought brand new in 84 so Im proud to say you are probably in the top 5 eldest persons on the site. Welcome to TM and your truck is actually in very decent shape for being a west coast rig
