I'll let you know something, just sit tight for a week or so.

Andy, thanks for the offer. I'm just gonna take it back to greenup where the people I used to work with are. I figure with 5 of us minitruckers(1 ASE mechanic,2 Airbrush and Bodywork artists and 2 jack of all trades) we should be able to knock it out and have it dropped under primer in a few days. We've done builds like this before.

I used to be REAL nice before....back in the day. Now a days, people got jobs and families, some of us have moved several hours from where we grew up.

We've done some cool build in very little time. I think the best one was a square ranger. From stock to slammed, custom painted (kandy popsicle blue with glow in the dark tribal flames), and drivetrain swapped (351w/ c4 in place of 4 banger 5spd) in less than a week and a half. Granted, we were working almost round the clock but it got done! It ran fast, sold fast, and made a bit of money on the build too!

Well... I'm so pissed I could eat nails right now.

I went and got an estimate to appease the insurance company. $1053.42

They just called me back, it's a total loss. It runs and drives fine, though, and it's the only vehicle I own, so I want to keep it. Preemptively, the value they're talking about giving me for the truck......$575.:mad:....minus whatever salvage value is, and I get to keep it.

Hopefully, the next person who's not paying attention and slams into my rear end, does so with a little lube. I feel like I'm totally getting ****ed here! Insurance is supposed to make me "whole" again, as in- the same as I was BEFORE I was hit. This isn't happening on either account.

My truck get's junked, and I receive $575 for it. I'm now out of MY ONLY vehicle with out enough to replace it with a similar one.

    OR

My truck get's junked, I keep it with a salvage title, a couple hundred bucks (IF THAT), and I can't afford to put it back into the condition it was before he hit me. Do either of these scenarios seem to make me "whole" again?

can't you refuse the offer and sue? maybe scare them into replacement value..

when my 04 mustang got the side ripped off by a diesel, i missed the scrapper by $100.. they would only pay it off, and the $19k i had already paid would have went down the drain, with no money to buy another. it's lame.

It seems to me at this point you should retain a lawyer...

Ya i would say get a lawyer to. Thats not right. I know a lawyer out here that is a good friend of my dads and ill see if i can get ahold of him to see what can be done. Did you have full covered on your truck? Plus its supose to be there insurance paying for the repairs not yours.

Thanks guys.. I hope it all works out.

It is indeed HIS insurance paying for everything, I contacted MY insurance and they said that I am not in any way liable for anything, and If I have any trouble with HIS insurance to call them.

B.Y.E. It is possible that I've jinxed myself, it's happened before.

Fact remains, HIS insurance is supposed to put me back into the position I was in BEFORE he hit me.

Junking my truck and giving me 575 dollars is NOT going to get me back and forth to work, the grocery store, or to pay bills. 575 dollars won't BUY anything that even runs, much less, reliably enough to be a daily driver.

On the other hand, junking my truck, and keeping it with a salvage title and whatever minuscule amount of money they give me for "actual cash value minus salvage value", will get me back and forth to work, but it won't cover the 1053 dollars worth of repairs to put it back into the shape it was in BEFORE he hit me.

I apologize for ranting on here, I guess I was hoping that someone had been in a similar position dealing with an older truck like this.

Oh, and if the insurance company IS reading this, **** YOU!

    UPDATE!

I'm keeping my truck, and taking the money they're offering. Now I need help finding some parts.

    I need:
    tailgate skin/roll pan combo-weld in
    Lower skirts
Bed side patches, or whole bed sides
4WD front fenders- will trade my 2wd fenders
Doors without wing glass-will trade mine with wing glass
Solid rear window-have slider for trade

Well, more than I expected, honestly. I kept the truck and came out with ~1500 bucks. I figure if I can manage to do alot of the work myself (which is difficult to say the least-living in an apartment) I theoretically can get a lot done with that money. Found a cali combo with lighted plate box for 220 shipped. Found lower skirts for 60 each plus shipping. Same place has wheel arch patch panels for, I don't remember right off, but it's less than 100 each.

With any luck at junk yards, I can get 4wd fronts, and my preferred doors out of this money as well. Along with black sealer primer, so I can wash it with steel wool. :)

I understand the bed is pretty tore up. However, in Ky, it's salvageable. Seriously, on a quiet night, you can hear these beds rusting here.
