I just took the panels off. then measured from the side & bottom of where I wanted the speaker. As far as the wire, if you don't have factory wires running to your doors. I used a small drill bit (just big enough for the wire) & drilled holes in the door & door jam. Look on my cardomain page.

Are you going with components or 6x9's if your going with 9's your going to need a spacer but its pretty much straight foward. Try to position speakers to where no cutting of the door is needed. As for the wire, just stick it through the door next to the lower hinge, & on the cab side, through the opening where the door check is, then finish it off w/ wire loom, but stick the wire loom thru the openings as well so the wires dont chaffe & ground out.

you should run the wires with a rubber grommet any time you drill a hole.

a wire resting on a metal edge is the #1 cause of car fires.

Seems like the members before me explained it before me. I really dont like putting door speakers in earlier model Toyota's, I find its more work than its worth, not that its hard, just, I find it easier to put in q-forms or build fiberglass enclosures in the kickpanels, better sound theatre and saves the shins on the way out and in. But, if your set on it, the main reason for spacing it out, is that if you dont, chances are your window will hit the speaker. Make yourself some inexpensive trim rings out of MDF or particle board to the size of your speakers of choice, when they fit the rings place them on door, mark & cut, then fasten, try different ways to spruce them up according to your tastes, Ive seen them painted, fiberglassed/bondo'D, wrapped in materials, the skys the limit. I will add the worst part of putting them in the doors is if you hate em, you now got a hole in the door . . .

I'm putting in some Cadences in the door, and they are deep. I'm going to use some MDF for the spacers and then wrap them in vinyl to make them stand out.

And if you don't like them there......well that's just another project you'll have!!
