Hi everyone i have an 80 pickup, pretty cool little truck w/ 345k but just recently coolant started getting into my oil, i think bhg so i joined on here to learn more about these trucks and what kind of engine swaps can/should be done i come from supra (see sig) and 240sx's (screenname) any help/ideas will be greatly appreciated -Art
That body is so clean i suspect its really got only 34k on it. but too bad about the bhg, time for a 1uz ;-)
Damn! Clean truck! Too nice to not keep it original. Built 20 or 22R? Hybrid maybe? Coolant in oil is either a cracked head/block, timing chain wore thru the timing cover, TC internally leaking, or a blowd head gasket.
welcome to Tm .... Hey nice truck...jeje..I have Toyota pick up 1982...is the same... I hope that enjoy this forum..is very interesting....
thanks for the warm welcome guys, since my engine is messed up, im looking for a replacement, i found a 22re from and 89 (efi) and was wondering if it will bolt up to the 5 speed thats currently in the truck, the L50 think its called, ive tried searching but am having a little trouble since i dont know all the correct terminology, any help or pointing in the right direction will be greatly appreciated. thanks Art
The 22RE will bolt in. The trans and motor mounts wont be an issue. You will have to get a tank off of a fuel injected -shortbed- truck for the pump. Need to run fuel lines. Graft in the 22RE wiring harness, and all the sensors and stuff. It would be pretty easy (and cheeps) if you got your hands on a parts truck. A junkyard would get all your monies if you pieced it together from them. Better to look for a rock crawler guy who is swapping out his engine. The L40-45-50 trans are ok. Pure truck transmissions. Ive pushed mine to its limit and its hurting now A better choise would be a W55-56 out of a 22RE truck. Best is always a W58. If you are a lucky lucky dog, you can run the 22RTE R154(IDK exact number, but thats close) out of a turbo SR5 2wd.
I guess its prob better to just rebuild the motor i have, im guessing its the front timing cover and not the headgasket, since some coolant has already gotten into my oil, what else will i have to replace? thanks
