I had my glove box and part of the dash out last night fixing a blower issue, so I paid some attention to the cracked and busted stock speakers..

I am going to put a decent system in in a few months or so, but I would like to listen to the stock unit until I do...

Now to my question, I noticed the grill has several other mounting points besides just the round 4"..

Will a 4x6 3 way fit in that spot and screw mounting holes match up?

I've never been known for my abundance of patience... so I'll let you know if they worked.

 

The other mounting holes might be for the speaker enclosure that some of the upper models had. But either way, I've only seen 4" speakers in the factory dash location. I'm sure with modification or custom made brackets you should be able to fit others in there.

What are your stereo plans for the future?

if I can figure out how to make that work... Finding some MDF and making it work etc..
then maybe the tweeters in the A-piller flush mounted.
I don't want to give up my storage compartments in the floor if I am giving up the sides... so
maybe a amped base tube..
I have a kenwood system that I used to have in a vette I had, its 10yr old though.. kenwood head unit, EQ, A ckenwooder, 4 way amp.. the 2 way amp and speakers I have sold..

OR just get a modern unit like a KDC X993 and forget the EQ and amp which the HE has.. I have a large music collection so USB and Ipod interfaces would be be better than a 6 cd changer.

I just worry that my componets will be to far apart, all the sound will be from the back (sub and mids) exept the tweeter, so I may try some some good 4's in the stock location, then if all else fails I will put some 6.5 3 ways in the doors.

I will take any and all advise David, I have searched, You and a few other are much more modern Audio install oreniated than I am. After I finish the Yoda, I am putting a nice system in the TA

 

Well the Pyramid 4680GX 4x6s came in today..
I pulled the pass side and due to the many hole it was easy finding 2 that aligned up..
then I pulled the drivers side.... ut oh... only 2 mounting hold period! the pass side has 4 or so extra: drivers side was much more work to get to fit... a little tweaking and I put the dash back.

I have to say, I was surprised at how good they sounded... they will hold nicely till I put in a real system.

 

I don't have an ext cab but here is what my doors and pillars look like....


The door panels are not done yet, but hopefully soon.

 

Nice work, not sure I have anyone local to do that kind of work.

 

Time for me to step up my stereo lol. I have an old ass deck but fairly new speakers. Need to redo my door panels an get some subs lol

 

yea if your guna get component 6.5"s keep the speaker on the door and the tweeter by the pillar. Put a 6x9 in the back or something. or keep all the highs up front and the bass out back. Itl all blend together

 

I agree with Jetas. But if you plan on adding a sub or two I would use 6.5" coaxial in the back as well. A buddy of mine (a pro installer for 13 yrs) says they are much more musical than 6x9's.

 

i have 6x9's in the back. I say go with the 6.5's.. probably fit better too

 

I already have my alpine components, SPS170A 6.5s and SPS1005 Tweets.
I will put a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X494 in the truck and a KDC-X994 in my TA.
I am not sure on the powered amp yet..

Anyone have any knowledge on Sound Ordnance B-8PT or Boss BASS1200 or 1500?

That is my mild build in the truck.. I have a bit more conventional plan for the TA.
