i just got this truck from my grandpa. it has 112,000 on it and ALMOST everything has been replaced in the last 10k milles.it was running fine then one day shut off while idling. i wasn't getting a spark out of the coil pack so i replaced it with an accel aftermarket one. still no spark. what should i do. replace the ignition controller with an aftermarket one, like and msd ignition or buy an oem one for 330 bucks? anybody got any ideas? i love this thing...
Woa, for starters, slow down with all the aftermarket stuff. Try not to panic and stick with the basics. Check your battery, starter, ignition switch, ignitor.... You're better off spending a few bucks on a tester and tracing the problem, rather than blindly throwing greenbacks at it. Otherwise, it sounds like you have a pretty decent truck there. Kind of an unwritten rule around here that one must properly introduce themselves by way of pics of their truck/s, prior to receiving detailed and more importantly accurate answers to their questions...
hammer the valve cover a bunch....i heard thats where the demons hide... jk dont do that...into first, tech help second
very sorry for not introducing my ride. i really just got the truck and have not even properly acquainted myself with it. i now have a not running truck and need help with this now. my only source of transportation to and from work. this is a really big deal for me and i am just really freaked. i love the truck and just want to do this quickly. i have checked everything else i think. i am not getting a spark from my new coil pack. i still have the old one. i could easily afford the aftermarket ignition controller like an msd or something similar. i could test the old one after i get my truck operational. i am new to truck engines and i am so glad this one is the one i have to learn on. i will try and get pics on today if possible. thanks for any help you guys give me...
22r ignition issue i had this problem once and it was a bad cap and rotor ... they do go bad and there is no way to do a visual unless they physically break ... i was at a stop sign and the car just died.. i had just finished the tune up .. new cap, rotor, plugs wires ..the works .. i was 5 miles from home and no cell..acutally this was in 1987 and cells were not really around so i had to hoof it back to napa to get the parts repaced ... was a really long day hope this helps
Hi, I had this problem a couple of years ago where it just stopped running right in the middle of the street. This was 2007 so I called for help. To cut it short it turned out to be the igniter. I went to the parts store and the wanted about 400 for it so I went to the my local junk yard and picked 1 up for 150.00 and its been running great ever since. This unit is located under the ignition coil.
Had this problem once and I found it be the spark igniter, which is underneath the coil on my 83 Toyota. I bought one at my local wrecking yard for 150 bucks.
If it determined to be the ignition you might want to read this article as it "WILL" save you a few bucks and it really does work! http://bbs.zuwharrie.com/content/topic,85514.0.html
