noob question guys

    can someone please recommend a good scan tool for me ? new to the game over here . thnxxx .

    um..are you just trying to read codes or what? also whats your budget, i know good scan tools from 75 bucks to 3000 lol

    lol . dam 3 grand ... nah , more like the 75 dollar one or even cheaper . something to read codes . just bought my pickup and my cel came on . figure a scan tool is a good place to start ..... so much to do man ..... thnx for tha reply .

    i think auto zone or one of those places will scan your truck and tell ya what your codes are. what year truck is it, the older yotas dont need a scan tool, just a paper clip

    edit: just saw its a 94, you dont need a scan tool just a paper clip..

    find the connector that looks like this in your engine bay

    jump these two pins, turn the key to the on position and write down the flash code that comes up with the check engine light..

    the codes are 2 digit numbers, the first set of flashes is the first digit, then there is a short pause in flashes then a second set of flashes is the second digit.

    damn dillinja , thanx alot man ! great info . would rather stay away from having someone else have to do it . iv learned to wrench quite a bit coming from a vw ( lots of frustration there:brickknock: ) . im looking forward to getting this truck in tip top shape . thnks agn man .

    no problems...if ya post the flash code people on here can help ya figure out whats going on...this is a pretty helpfull site
