    Hey Everyone,

I just bought a 1988 v6 EFI automatic extracab yesterday and am new to toyota's in general. The only immediate fix i can see is that the gear shifter is loose. Anyone know if I can tighten this, is it a serious problem, will it get worse, etc.

Also any information or things to look out for would be great. I am super excited about my new truck and will post pictures soon.

    Thanks!

    You said its an automatic?

Those plastic cup/bearing things wont work for you. Take the console cover off the floorshift and while your looking at the mechanisms under it, shift it forward and back trying to see where the play is.

Alot of times it at the ends of the shift cable. The plastic grommets fall out/break and all of the sudden you have lots of play in the shifter and it doesnt work.

Dont forget to look on the transmission side of the cable to to see if its loose or off of its mount or something.

Im sure youll find the problem. :waytogo:
