So I just got a lockrite for my 86 Toyota pickup for drifting... lowered suspension... the works... The only trouble Im having is the steering, I have manual steering and its not the greatest for drifting... I would like to find a race type steering box for looser turning... CAN ANYBODY HELP?
no /.... something that doesn't take as much effort to turn the wheels.... power sttering rack without power is not very friendly in the racing situations... My thought electric pump? or are you still running the 22r?
I think he means looser as easier to turn... Swap to a power steering box, and if you dont like the ratio, find and fab a power rack and pinion setup. Your gunna have to figure that one out. Mini coopers have electric PS pumps. I think its a junky design. But whatever.
i think what he wanted was a better ratio, something more tighter as in the rack and pinion system. Toyota Prius and MR2's have electric power steering. look into those.
Steering no exactly...... well somewhat... yah I need my steering closer to 2:1 steering ratio.. Ive seen one on a toyota flat track race truck.... and yah Im still runnin 22R
here http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FLA-FR1496/ 12:1 gotta fab some stuff to make it work. if it was bolt in that would be too easy right. edit: and if that wont work just call up flaming river, they make more crap they you could possibly think of for steering.
I'd recommend a rack and pinion system, saves weight with ease of steering effort. Any rack off a Geo Metro / Suzuki Swift or equivalent will do. You will need to use the mounting brackets and if possible end joints, actually if you can purchase the entire steering column that would be the way to go! I'm currently building one for a 1963 Nova wagon and so far I've got about $40.00 in the whole set-up.
