my name is nick, im from washington. im going to school at renton tech to be a machinist, im done with school this summer and i will be moving home to central washington where my shop is. this is my 71 hilux
i have had these little trucks for a while, i finally got a little motivation to do some work. the truck is nowhere close to being done. i still have plans to do a full chassis with a 2jzgte and air suspension. this was just a quick job to get the bodywork roughed in and have a fun little cruiser for the summer.

the truck was pretty rought under all the flat black on it. i shaved the seams in the bed, shaved the gas tank opening, vents in the back of the cab and bobbed the bed 8 inches.

I love the work you have done. .. I just got a 71 last month... I am installing a 22r hybrid with 5spd.. I can say that you probably won't get an inline 6 under the hood unless you run the radiator in the rear. I only have 4" between the fan pulley and the front crossmember with 1" for fire wall clearenace. This is pretty tight .. found a 2" elecro fan to run so I am golden but its going to be tight under the hood.
    good luck.

Thanks for the good words guys. I'm not too worried about cutting to make the motor fit. I'm worried about the back of the motor going into window, that's the biggest of my concerns... Along with hood clearence, I will probably do something on the inner fenders and not run a hood, I'm body dropping the truck an inch into the door so it lays flat on the bed, the roof will be around 43inches.

As for hood clearance you can probably attempt on a fiberglass cowl hood? not too large, but just a weeeeee taller. you know? Good luck on this! I would definitely love seeing this 71 run a 2JZ-GTE. I'll look forward to seeing your chassis strengthening and reinforcing.

man.. being whooped by a 89-95 with a 2JZ is enough, now being whooped by a 71 is gunna be hell for people!

I was thinking of doing something with the hood off a 89-95 how they have a little raised spot on them. As far as the chassis goes, we have done a few race cars in our shop so I have a little background, I'm gonna do a full tube chassis and cage. Its gonna look like something for the nascar truck circut when I'm done with the chassis.
