how would i know if my injectors on my truck has gone bad? I just rebuilt it and i also wanted to know if i needed bigger injectors because i bored it .30mm over.
injectors are known to flow off balance even from the factory. of course over time, use, and the effects of different fuel mixes over the years, they will begin to get clogged up and lose further efficiency. you can have your injectors serviced and cleaned up for relatively cheap. you can also buy a set of matched injectors for near a few hundred bucks from lce. i personally noticed a huge gain in mileage and how the truck ran overall when i bought my balanced injectors. when i was deciding what to do about the injectors, at the time of my build for my 4runner, i had read an article at the time about installing balanced injectors in diesels and other various cars. the power increase was marginal but what affected the vehicles the most was mileage and running condition. when i installed my injectors on my 87 4runner, i whent from an average of 20mpg (in town and highway) to near 29! considering i drive with a heavy foot on most occasions than not, thats a big jump! if i get back into an RE thats one of the mod's i would definately have on my list.
it's basically consistency, if everything ran smoother, overall, performance in running condition improves.
Anybody happen to know if the injectors changed sizes between the different years of 22RE's? Or if ones from another car or truck engine will swap over?
Injectors shouldn't change size if they're 22re's but the plug in for them are different from year to year. 22rte's on the other hand have different injectors.
