This alarms seems to have the features im looking for but i know nothing about alarm brands. The price is good. I kno i kno, "u get what u pay for" but is this a good deal on a decent alarm? The reviews seem like everyone whos got one is happy with it.

Im thinking of getting this for my birthday as a gift from my mom and dnt want to spend too much $$. And seeing as i finished installing my system i dnt want to have my truck messed with when it comes out of its current coma state

    What do you guys think?

If the reviews are good, I'd try it out. For that price you're not out too much.

I have a basic Viper 350HV, all it does is lock and unlock. But he hooked it up so it turns on my interior light and headlights when I unlock. It also locks my doors when I start it up (only if doors are closed).

In my humble opinion, you are best suited by buying anything that D.E.I. makes. Search DEI on ebay, there are tons of kits in this price range. I bought a Viper alarm with 2 level tamper sensor, door lock control, acc button, two key fobs, and 800 ft. (I test this all the time) range for $75 from a local shop. I know DEI makes a non viper alarm exactly like mine for less. I was actually going to buy that alarm, but the local shop was out of stock and didn't want to lose the sale.

I'm sure that there are other companies as good, but DEI has been around since the beginning and still make great stuff.

Il look into the DEI is there any online retailers? cuz i really dnt trust ebay. Kinda hard to track one random ass person. A store is easier.

I think i am guna try out the alarm i posted. All i really need is something basic. Dnt need too many features

my friend has been an alarm installer for 10+ years and he told me to get that exact alarm you posted. he has it on his frontier and had it on his old bug and never had any problems with them. the only thing he doesnt like is that they go through remote batteries kind of quick. i bought one about 5 months ago and have had it sitting in my garage waiting to install it.

I have that same alarm in my rig and have had no problems at all, works great, I have a few extra features I bought at the same time that brought the cost up some from the one you posted.
As for battery life, the 4 button fob still has the same battery (watch style) that it came with after a couple years now, but the LCD fob is more power hungry, the first fob would drain a battery in a few days, I bought a new LCD fob and it works much better, battery now goes months before needing replaced, which is a AAA battery in that one.
Depending on what features you plan to connect, be ready to test your skills at wiring as it does get a bit crazy.

Do you think there would be a way to hook up an alarm to go off when a tool box in the bed is opened? That would be the biggest reason for me to get one. And you know I would mount a few 100db buzzers/sirens from radioshack inside the box. :D I figure just a simple switch that activates the system when it opens. It would be the only reason I could want an alarm. Maybe to drop the bags when I get that far. :D

That would be a good idea, but if they break in to your truck with you not in it means they got your guns too. :doah:

Thats do-able. I have a trigger switch on my hood, so if they pry open the hood while it is armed the alarm will go off.

I am sure the scytek its a fine unit, most alarms are very similar internally. Would I put it in my truck? hell no.

The only alarms we sell at my shop are DEI. Why? they have, hands down the best tech support, they have a lifetime warranty on their alarm brains, They have extremely high quality accessories (sensors, window roll up modules, actuators etc..) and almost every stereo shop in the country will have a replacement remote if you ever get stuck in the middle of nowhere and need a remote.

I used to work for Al & Eds (I even worked on the SSR monstrosity they have at the top of the page)and we pretty much only sold scytek because they made the sales guy the most money. They probably cost me money when you consider all the time I spent trouble shooting that crap later. If you can fit it in your budget, go DEI

I will not even install a non DEI alarm at my shop , unless its for a used car dealer...

Thanks for all the opinions guys. But the alarm is guna have to be put on hold. Im thinking brakes would be a better thing to do seeing as my rotors are rusted to sh!t and i might as well re-pack the wheel bearings or just change them out.
